So for a project where we are digitizing sd footage to be re-cut and output to DVD, the DV codec will do as good a job as any other?

Thanks for your advice guys, i appreciate it

Generally speaking, we capture footage as HDV or DV, once edited and treated in AE it is exported as a .mov using the Animation codec.

We are using Premier CS3 for capture, however due to file size we if we are dealing with miniDV tapes we usually capture clips with DV compression…

There is a really helpful tutorial podcast on vanashing points (via creative cow on itunes), really easy to do by the sounds of it. I would love to help out, however, i’m in Australia with a really slow internet connection. Goodluck!

I have no idea how and i’ve never done this but you could try and stack a few effects on top of each other. For instance, use Trapcode Particular to “melt” your greenscreened/masked man into a pile of particles on the floor and then apply a blobbize effect over the top. It won’t be perfect but for a very quick shot you might be able to get away with it. if you don’t have trapcode particluar you could try to use CC_Balls or somthing?

Is the cone angle of the light big enough to acctually cast a shaddow. i.e is your 3D object placed between the light and the background? if the light is off to the side or something it may be casting a shaddow but out of the camera shot? sounds obvious but it’s all I can think of?

  • Check out the Creative Cow Podcast “The Boomerang Effect”, this sounds like what you’re encountering, it’s to do with the spacial interpolation, the podcast answers all

    Thanks! I’ll check it out!

  • For high quality/level effects like a sandman dissapear you would need to use something like Trapcode Particular. I’ve seen some amazing effects achieved using this tool. The trick is that your “ghost” will need to be keyed to make the “ghost” into particles without affecting the environment around it.
