I have been working with AE for about 3 years now and am really keen to take it to the next level. I self taught myself through a number of jobs but havent had any formal training. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any advanced ae training in Melbourne Australia? or even Australia ANYWHERE! lol. I have been looking but everything seems to be bundled into a course about basic video editing “touching on AE”.

I want something to sink my teeth into. Any help even info on international training would be much appreciated? I BEG YOU! haha. seriously, i would love some advice.

This book is seriously awesome, and I can honestly say that you’ll learn more from it, if you really try, than most sessions I’ve ever been to. Of course, I haven’t been to any in depth (well, they said “In Depth” in the name, but… *sigh*) sessions.

It’s especially great for those people who are familiar with AE, but don’t understand the inner workings well enough to really take advantage of them.

Another great book is Angie Taylor’s Creative After Effects 7 book. And even though it says it is for v7, there is little in it that isn’t applicable to any version as it isn’t a rewrite of the user manual. She doesn’t just run through the switches and gears like most books do but she shows you the hows and the whys, along with the strategies behind them. And Darby is right, Mark’s book is also remarkable.

The course that I linked to above is taught by the author of Studio Techniques, Mark Christiansen.
