Thanks for the input. I think I’ve bought all the updates since 10 haha. Have never played with Premier though and always wonder if grass is greener on other side of the fence. I used Final Cut for a little while but am not a Mac person and have a client who uses Avid for audio production but their NLE is far beyond my budget ☹

Curious what hardware you guys are running? I almost need to do a full spec of my system so we can compare what works better. I was pressuring vegas developers for some time to give a best build spec sheet but never got anything from them.

This has infuriated me with sie germans. Magix support looks like it’s there but it’s impossible to use. If you get a reply it’s not a cordial one. I got through once and had a legitimate question. They didn’t have a kind response. I’m not going to sugar coat it, their response was downright rude, almost how dare do you ask me a question.

Their website / checkout cart was broken when I tried to do last upgrade. The page had a contact us button but that was also broken. Somehow now, I’m getting calls for Magix tech support. People think that I’m the guy who runs their tech support. I have no idea how these people get my phone number.

I was in Germany and almost wanted to visit Magix. I’ve put thousands into this software. It was a bit glitchy and buggy with Sony but they were courteous and I always held out hope that they would fix those things so I over looked them.

Magix continues to roll out new features that are equally glitchy. Underlying software needs bugs fixed and they are completely ignoring them. For instance, does anybody’s “explorer” pane work correctly? Mine never has on three separate computers I’ve tested software on over multiple different operating systems.

I honestly, would just like to know what hardware can reliably run the software. Magix wouldn’t tell me what hardware they test the software on. And now I assume there’s “no tech support” at all once the Germans took over the software.

We should petition Sony to buy it back lol

Render reverse?

Right click video on timeliene and select reverse from context menu.

Conform to another frame rate?

1. Set desired frame rate in your project settings. FILE -> PROPERTIES
2. Right click video on timeline. Select properties from context menu. Click “Conform to project frame rate”

Vegas sees h.265 files perfectly fine. It’s just slow as molasses when decoding them.

You may also be able to use some of the transitions, depending on how you want your composition to come out. For instance panning from one photo to the next can be done with the transitions.

I’ve created a few videos with the Track Motion and keyframes as shown in your youtube clip there. It’s a lot of work though so I don’t do it so much anymore.

Not sure what your machine is, but I’m not sure that’s the issue. You can edit with proxies as mentioned but I always found that to be a pain.

I’d recommend upgrading to Vegas 17, it’s only a couple hundred bucks. I’ve done quite a few of the upgrades since I started with Vegas back at Vegas 10. The last upgrade to 16 was pretty decent.

This update to 17 seemed to be a big leap in performance though. I didn’t upgrade anything on my computer, the timeline playback and editing seem much more stable and fast with this 17 than any of the previous versions.

My guess is they updated more of the FX to have GPU support. I’ve contacted Magix to ask about this when I built my machine and they are a bit of a closed door. I think the software is catching up to hardware from 3 and 4 years ago. (pretty typical of software development).

Thanks for the help ☺Some shots I have to shoot flat, eg. log profile (depending of light conditions). My cameras have modes with the sole intention of doing this, adding sharpening in post and not in camera. However, my drones create some very difficult to work with footage. Sometimes it is both soft and noisy.

Mavic Pro has many known issues in this regard. Additionally, my Phantom 4 Pro. However, the P4P is a bit better when switched to h.265. If you have a good eye you’ll spot the issues in videos online. There’s frame flicker (luminace in some frames are higher than others), and lots of digital artifacts in the shadows.

I seldom use any in camera sharpening. I always do it in post. But only the drone shots really require any noise reduction. NLE noise reduction is temporal as well if that’s how you describe it. It does factor in some frame filtering, so I can get rid of issues like my frame flicker. However, I’m not sure that effects sharpening, I think sharpening is frame by frame or I assume so.

This is a video I just made since getting noise reduction software for Mavic issues. I didn’t do any sharpening. Partly because overloaded rendering process and didn’t preview the same as it rendered for some reason. Noise reduction was only done on drone clips. Those clips were also shot in log profile.

Thanks, I’d actually bought a Atomos Nija a while back. I returned it though. It was a fantastic device but all these extra pieces of equipment further complicated my workflow and little did I know 5dm2 wouldn’t output 1080p.

I’m actually juggling two priorities (1) Top priority is workflow, I need less equipment that can do more. Right now I have a Chevy Tahoe full of equipment for my photo-shoots. I’m trying to downsize that. (2) I’m also a bit addicted to 14bit raw Magic Lantern files. The workflow is hell but I can really push the files in my editor.

I like the idea of the Swiss army knife of cameras. I do extensive video and photo work in my job. Currently my 5dm2 is behind the times. I make it work but takes me WAY more processing than a new camera would. I know I could get better cinema camera but really cannot handle all the equipment, I hire assistants to help whenever I can but many times I have to do the projects on my own.

I really want a compact mirror-less with some decent lenses. I currently have pro glass but probably will spring for Sigma or something else this time.

Kind of more than anybody needed to know. I really appreciate the help suggestions. I’m super surprised the industry hasn’t come at more 10-bit options video yet. I feel rendering any higher than 1080p is all just hype. I think the extra pixels are wasted unless you plan on cropping the video. There is rumor more camera makers will move towards higher resolution video when I think more color information / Lossless codecs are what we need as professionals. I do have a 10bit display and calibration equipment. Was worth every cent, although about $1,300

Right now my plan is to wait on Sony a7s III and see if it supports 10-bit with some decent 60-fps options. If they don’t then I’ll get the Sony a7 III and settle with 8-bit video & possibly the Atomos as you mentioned.

I hope Sony (or better yet Canon) follow suit. I would snatch a Panosonic S1 today however, to me they completely defeat the purpose of going mirror-less. The S1 body is as big as a DSLR. I have no clue why they did that, other than possibly heat dissipation?

Man that’s a sweet camera! I had been looking at the S1R and didn’t seem to have 10 bit color. However, I see the S1 does with a firmware update?

It checks all the boxes except one ☹ Dang it’s a big body, I’d hoped to get a smaller camera by switching to Mirrorless from DSLR. I love canon’s and Sony’s small mirror-less bodies.

I may have to wait for A7s III and hope they incoporate 10 bit color 🙁
