We also have some standalone applications that can
be used to create movies that can be imported into Combustion.

I’ll look into that, but I’d rather keep it all in c* so I can animate the composite camera..

    1. Double check the settings on the deck are correct – can you monitor video from the deck itself via a monitor?

I hate to admit, but it was not hooked up to a monitor, only my notebook computer via firewire. I’ll check that tomorrow.

    2. Is the deck set for playback via firewire/iLink?

    Yes.

    3. Try setting deck preferences in Media Composer to Generic DV Device

Originally it was set to Generic DV Device. That allowed me to control the deck fine, although sometimes the preroll would hang. I switched the input device to match the deck, and everything worked fine (except for the above error).

    4. Do you have any other firewire device connected to the same card? Storage etc?

    No, just the deck.

    5. Try pressing play on the VTR and see if that appears within the capture tool window.

It does. In fact, if the deck is already rolling the capture tool window shows it’s playing and matches it’s timecode.

    6. Do you have the capture tool set for VTR control? If so try the global setting and press play from the deck when have started a manual record.

I assume the capture tool is set for VTR control. As I said, I have no problems controlling the deck or setting ins/outs. Once I press the red capture button, it prerolls the tape, starts to capture (I see my hard drive light blinking) but at the end of the capture it give me the error.

    7. In the capture tool, do you have HOST – 1394 set for both video and audio?

Yes, they are both on 1394.

Let us know and we should be able to help further.

    Thanks for the advice!

I’ve tried changing the settings of the IEEE output on the deck to 200Mbps and 100Mbs from the original 400Mbs, but still no-go.

I’m using a 6-pin to 4-pin firewire cable (notebook computer has 4 pin port), could that be it? I wouldn’t think so, but I can’t think of anything else..

Well, it also ‘costs’ if no clients come to you since everyone else here is Avid.. They want their existing timelines and edits to seamlessly load up and pick up where they left off, or re-edit stuff done somewhere else.. They are all used to Avid, and think anything else isn’t as professional..

All the superior Betamax’s are nothing in a sea of VHSs..

    Dan,

That one says it only holds up to 20lbs.. The Dell 24″ is 22lbs..

Although that looks like exactly what I want, just a mounting plate I can drop onto a combo stand on set..

March 15, 2006 at 4:26 am in reply to: Multibridge compatible with Avid Xpress Pro?

I have Vegas now, and everything seems to be working great..

The system is a dual 3Ghz Xeon w/ DecklinkHD and Multibridge and about 2 hours of HD hard disk space.. Will the Avid software not see my hardware for deck control, capture, etc? Will FCP? We need to be able to capture from Panasonic Varicam 720p and HDV, as well as SD sources..

It seems if I open combustion, I can start the deck control without it crashing.. But I can’t do anything with it since it isn’t seeing a deck. If I go to Preference, none of the easy setups I select activate.. The Serial Control is set to RS422 Deck Control, and I can’t deselect that (for LIVE capturing).. The Capture Settings both show ‘Blackmagic HDTV 1080 (missing)’ which I can’t change, and everyting else is greyed out..

Everytime I start the Blackmagic Deck Control it crashes immediately..

If I click on view data I get this:

AppName: blackmagic deck control.exe App Ver 4.4.7.0 ModName: quicktimeauthoring.qtx
    ModVer: 6.5.2.10 Offset: 000a77ba
