Did the 3.4 update fix the issue with PCs no longer being seen by the switcher as live video sources via HDMI?

October 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm in reply to: ATEM 1 vs ATEM TVS….input needed

    1) Are the analog input cables provided for the unit? (I see they are a non-standard input).

You get a breakout cable with a pair of XLR inputs, a pair of XLR outputs and a pair of timecode I/O cables.

    2) Is the component out switchable? Can you select your format as well for this, 1080p down to 480i/p? Or is this only the same as the input format like the HDMI/HD-SDI format? Can you output s-video from this as well?

I need to check on the component output, but I am pretty sure it is outputting what the unit it set to (1080i, 720p or 480i)

    3) Is the composite output active all the time, even when other outputs (both HDMI and Component) are used?

Composite video is always available whether you are running the unit in HD or SD mode. Composite output is always available along with the HDMI and SDI output.

    4) Does the analog input need to match the other input formats, or does the unit convert it to match?

Yes . . . you can’t run the unit in HD and bring in an SD source. You need to add a converter to do this.

(As if I am using all 1080i cams via HDMI and HD/SDI and an s-video signal from a laptop or DVD player at a different resolution/format)

The ATEM switchers strip away any embedded audio in an SDI and HDMI feed connected to the ATEM switcher.

You need to bring audio into the ATEM Television Switcher via the AES/EBU connector on the back on the switcher.

For the money, an ATEM 1 M/E Production Switcher is the perfect choice if you want to do affordable high-def switching with live video cameras plus add titles.

You can add extended-length video playback and recording using the HyperDeck Studio . . . just know that that ATEM 1 M/E strips away the audio from the SDI and HDMI outputs coming from the HyperDeck Studio. You will need to add a converter to take analog audio from the HyperDeck Studio playback to feed the ATEM 1 M/E.

I haven’t had a chance yet to work with the 2.6 software with the ATME 1 M/E that turned on the USB 3.0 port. In theory, this means you can create a live stream from the output of the ATEM 1 M/E. You can definitely take the SDI output of the ATEM 1 M/E and feed an SDI DeckLink card installed in another PC.

Hope this helps . . . and yes, I am a BlackMagic dealer.

The NewTek TriCaster 300 with three inputs sells for $15K . . . the recently-announced TriCaster 450 with four inputs also sells for $15K. If you need an all-in-one solution (switching, graphics creation/display, video clip playback and recording plus recording the live-switch to hard drive and streaming . . . all at the same time, then I would consider the TriCaster 450, budget permitting.

October 11, 2011 at 2:39 pm in reply to: ATEM 2.6 Update

Ronak, I will test this is soon.

The ATEM 2.6 addes the following:

    • Uncompressed capture via USB 3.0 with ATEM 1M/E Production Switcher
    • UltraScope monitoring via USB 3.0 with ATEM 1M/E Production Switcher
    • Support for tally via Ethernet with the Blackmagic GPI and Tally Interface
    • Support for tally via SDI to the ATEM Camera Converter
    • General performance and stability improvements

    Should be interesting!

October 1, 2011 at 5:34 pm in reply to: USB 3 on ATEM1 switcher

The USB port on the ATEM 1 M/E is still operating as a USB 2.0 device . . . expect a software update from Blackmagic soon that will turn on the port as a USB 3.0 port. At that time, Blackmagic’s UltraScope should be included with the update, allowing you to monitor your video and audio levels, etc.
