See this thread for hidden options to change the default fade type for audio and video events. This works for me in Movie Studio HD 10, and prtobably applies to Pro as well:

I don’t think you can automate the naming in Vegas Movie Studio. It always takes the name of the project as the basis for the render file name.
In Pro, you can probably use some clever scripting to achieve this, but unless you are doing some special multiple render, you’re probably ass well just manually altering the name before rendering.

Like John, I use Movie Studio HD 10 and can edit the render presets as I wish.
However, I remember trying the demo of Movie Studio 9 (the basic version, not platinum) and I don’t think you could change the presets on that – there was some kind of restriction like that anyway. I think the Platinum version allowed you to edit the presets.

It could well have been the interlace setting that was making the water drop clip go strange. I guess you shot that using the smooth slow camera mode? Looks pretty cool.
I had a quick look at the camera specs, and it looks like it only records 60i frame rate (normal for AVCHD), except in the smooth slow mode – but even then the output video is still 60i although it would probably be captured as 240i.
If you render as progressive, you’ll get a progressive video (typically 30 frames/sec), but each frame will be the product of combining 2 fields (60 fields/sec) from the original interlaced video. How they get combined is determined by the project’s De-interlace setting.

Each time you install the trial, it asks for either a serial number (enter it if you have purchased Vegas and want the licensed product installed), or prompts you to register the trial – this just activates the 30-day trial, and I think you can do this on as many PCs as you want.

You need to set the deinterlace method to something other than “none” if your source is interlaced and your output format is progressive. Experiment with the deinterlace options to see which works best – Blend or Interpolate.

Do the video events still preview/play OK? If so, you mught have accidentally turned off thumbnails. Make sure the menu item View>Waveforms and Frames is enabled. If that doesn’t help, check Options>Prefences>Video and make sure the setting for Thumbnails in Video Events is set to whatever you want (I use head/center/tail).

It might be stuck under your taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Make your taskbar auto-hide (unlock it and drag the top edge of it down so it shrinks to a thin bar), then you might be able to see your pan/crop window and drag it up onto the screen.

As Douglas says, don’t drag the playhead itself – just drag the cursor line. If you find you can’t drag the line itself (you should get a double-headed arrow mouse cursor when you hover over the line), go to Options>Preferences>General and enable the “Allow edit cursor to be dragged” option.

Another trick for freezing a video is to create a 1-frame subclip from the frame you want to freeze at, then loop that subclip for as long as you need for the freeze.
Open the media clip in the trimmer, find the frame (zoom in lots) and select just that frame. Then right-click on the selection and choose “Create Subclip”. Then go to the Project Media window and drag the new subclip to the timeline and stretch it out as long as you need. Ensure looping is enabled (R-click event > Switches > Loop) and you’ll end up with a piece of real video (not a snapshot image) in the timeline that creates the freeze-frame effect.
To help you choose the correct frame, go to Preferences > Video tab > Show source frame numbers… and select Timecode. Then you’ll see the in/out frame numbers on the events in the timeline.
