Just what I was looking for. Although, I don’t have AE. But we’re upgrading to CS4 soon and I’ve already put in for it. Just another app to learn. But can’t wait. Anyway, I’ll see if Motion can handle this bad boy. If not I’ll prob just edit in the native codec and crop on export. Thanks for your help Dave. Much appreciated.

Your correct. Its the only footage in the edit. But the clip being 864×486 with square pixels doesn’t have the same vertical res. as NTSC 8-bit uncompressed. I guess due to the aspect ratio and being NTSC. I dropped the Photo JPEG, which I think is lossless too, into the 8-bit uncmp sequence and in the motion tab set it to 100% and it still didn’t fill the frame. With using compressor and cropping to 4×3, will that end up scaling up the footage a bit to fill the frame?

I would letterbox but being the subject matter that it is, we want it to feel more organic and natural. So full frame is what we’re going for.

Question on 16 vs. 24 bit. Why is FCP easy set up for uncompressed SD, 720×486, set to 16 bit if 24 bit standard? Am I missing something?

Are your System Pref settings set correctly to how your outputting? Meaning if your using Y, RY, BY, you have to select that in the System Prefs, BMD control panel, output.

Secondly, make sure you have one of the BM codecs selected in FCP under the view menu, video playback. Also make sure your external video is set to all frames.

Thirdly, I found out that the Intensity Pro card should be installed in the 4th or top card slot on the back of your machine.

    Hope this helps.

Bob, is the panasonic THPD or THPF the best choice for low budget color corrections? Nothing broadcast quality, mainly corporate and web video. I’m in need of something. But can’t afford and good broadcast, color accurate monitor.

Hey thanks for your help man. The odd cadences don’t bother me. Like I said the ProRes with frame controls off and progressive looks pretty good. I don’t think the motion has suffered.

I was trying to upload to clips for you but can’t get this to work right now. Would you be opposed to contacting me outside the forum? I could email you the clips in question or even a quick phone call could clear this up quickly. If not, thats cool. Appreciate the help anyway.

The TV spots are SD and interlaced. In order to make everything Progressive, I’ve converted them to progressive as well. I’ve got a lot of mixed footage, from HVX 200 stuff to screen and web capture from Snapz pro. Everything but the TV spots are progressive, which is why I converted them using Compressor. I knows its not ideal but it seems to have worked well. No real quality loss in going from interlaced TV to progressive.

I don’t want to go to a 720p60 timeline because upConverting my SD footage doesn’t look as good as the downcoverted HD footage.

Is a ProRes SD sequence at 29.97 not good? I know thats typically an interlaced format but again, I want everything to be progressive.

Sorry, if I’m confusing you, but being self taught, I get confused quickly when it comes to this sort of thing. Its one thing to be able to edit and see the finished product buts its a whole other can of worms to deal with the tech stuff, i.e. frame rates, aspect ratios, interlacing vs progressive and how to do all this properly.

Sorry, maybe you missed that part. I need to go 30 because I’m cutting a case study video that contains TV spots at 29.97, along with the majority of the footage. My settings are above and set to SD 29.97. Extra filler footage we shot with the HVX 200 was at 720p30PN and I downconverted to work with the TV spots and its looks and works well. I’d rather downconvert to SD than upConvert to HD. But I need my older 720p24PN footage to work with that SD sequence.

Jeremy, thanks. But I don’t want interlaced footage. I want to keep my sequence progressive. This is nto for broadcast. Our playback is on computer monitors via keynote, DVD and web. Interlacing looks bad on computer monitors. Can I not stay progressive? Why go interlaced?

Thanks Rafael. Thats what it looks like as I step through the clip. Works nice. I guess this is compressors way of adding in pull-down. If I had After Effects, I’d use it. But this is good enough for now. Thanks and thanks to everyone else for their comments. appreciate it.
