Thanks Dave. I wasn’t sure about that one. Question though in your method. Wouldn’t it be better to keep the DV timeline, build graphics and animations (w/ Motion), export those to ProRes 4×4 or Animation (need the alpha channel) and drop in DV timeline. Then rather than change the codec settings in the timeline, export a quicktime movie and transcode on export to ProRes? With the graphics already being in ProRes 4×4 or Animation codec, they would still look good. Does that sound right?

Also, I do use P2 and DVC Pro50 sometimes. But a lot of time we don’t have time for P2 offload and need to keep shooting. which I why I choose tape. I much rather shoot P2 720p or even SD like you said, but sometimes we simply don’t have the time. This is mainly man-on-the-street style stuff and event shooting. Thanks

Dude, you are the frickin man! It looks like the reverse telecine worked. brought file into FCP, made new sequence, hit yes to change sequence to match clip. 1080p23.98. awesome. no interlacing crap. audio is good. stepping through are clean, progressive frames one after another. CAD stuff is good.

got it. and under encoder, video settings the only option is 24. should i set a custom to 23.976? or just leave it alone.

No not PIP, but live action in the foreground and the CAD in the background. Live action has sky removal and CAD drawing shows new buildings in place of sky. But I think its 30p too cause it looks clean.

I’ll try compressor reverse tele and see what happens. thx

Thanks man. I’ll try everything I can.

The CAD sections have no interlacing. stepping through frame by frame looks very clean. however the sections with CAD drawings and live action comp’d together have pulldown.

I’ll see what I can do and maybe I can get the original file.

Not sure what you mean by that. There are some supers/text elements, a few digital signs comp’d in using AE and some architectural 3D cad drawings as well but for the most part its all live action.

All I have is the finished piece. Would it be wise to maybe ask the edit house to send me the progressive edit before they’ve added in the pulldown?

Jeremy, is there any way to conform this back to 23.98? Would duplicating the original file and opening it in Cinema Tools, then choosing conform to 23.98 work? Or would you maybe Reverse Telecine?

Is it possible to remove the pulldown from the 1080i29.97 clip, thus go backwards to 23.98 Progressive file? Would the clips speed be changed? Would the audio playback be at normal speed as well?

I’d like to be able to use this in a 1080 progressive sequence at 23.98.

that’s what i thought and have done in the past with good results. I just wasn’t sure if there was a proper way to do it. or if compressor adding in frames properly for the conversion. was just curious what most pro’s did or do in this situation. thx
