I didn’t. This was a 23.976p project I got from our post house. I’m simply doing the :5 tag for the :25-5 commercial. They’ve already added the pulldown into the 24p file giving me a 29.97 1080i ProRes file. They’ve told me its 3:2 pulldown and in QT it steps through that way, but I just don’t understand why stepping through in FCP, its 1, 2, 3, 4 and a duplicate frame (4:2).

Sorry meant to say, I assume that just the itnerlacing being displayed on a progressive computer monitor. So it should be good on a tube TV or SD broadcast monitor. Sound right?

No, sad to say on my computer monitor. Still can’t get approved for one of those either. All I have is a ref/client monitor, 40″ Sony XBR 1080p TV.

So I’ll assume that its okay then. Image is below if u wish to see. I had to cover the logo mostly, to protect the client, but you can see the last 2 letters.

Thanks man. Just did one, only a :30 spot so it was quick, and it looks fine except for the logo at the end. It has a small bit of jaggies on on the edges. I’ve brought that new clip into Compressor and it checks out in the inspector as bottom first. Is Compressor the best way to do this with software, i.e. FCS 3 or will AE do a better job?

I’m also aware hardware is the best way to do this, however, my Intensity Cary does not. I’m still hoping for a Kona or at least a MXO 2.

Thanks Chris. Question on AE then. Is it better to import the clip to a new comp at full size and render it out to the SD size needed or set up a new comp at the SD size needed and import the HD clip onto the SD comp and render? Is one workflow better than the other?

Deliverable is only for web and DVD. nothing broadcast. I hate to say this, but quality isn’t that important on this one. Which I why I was leaning towards 29.97 and have FCP add in the wrong pulldown to 23.98. I believe thats 2224 pulldown?

I curious to hear what others have to say as well. I’ve been editing on a RAID 0 for about 3 years now. Not only is it my scratch disk for speed reasons, but it also houses all of my project files and other media files.

I’ve often heard that you should house project files on a second internal HD or even an external Firewire HD and not the RAID 0 drives. And never your OS X install drive.

This works really well for me but just realize that if 1 drive fails, your pretty much screwed. I back everything up fairly often to an external Drobo with about 4 TBs of storage.
