Robert thanks for going to all this trouble. We must be on different systems, I don’t recognize the QT export window as your describing it. The Size option does not have a ‘deinterlace’ button.

That said, however, I’m trying the Apple Intermediate Codec at 720P, there is a interlace button on that codec, I left it unchecked. And, I used the Size setting you suggested (864 x 486). I might be able to work with that.

It’s definitely a challenge. I’m going to keep after it for a while, not sure how much longer I can last. It’s an old system and I can not expect it should still be relevant. Thanks again for all your help on this Sunday afternoon!

Thank you so much for your time. I do remember exporting to file and not having these issues in the past. I’m importing 16 * 9/720 and that’s what my program is. I just don’t remember it was this much trouble.

Could it be an issue with square pixels and non square pixels? It’s really got me stumped.

Also, I considered mastering to tape and importing to iMovie to do the compression for uploading. Might work.

Robert – Thanks for responding so quickly. My project is a 4 minute music video. The original footage is DVCAM.

When I try to export using the ‘best’ setting (default key frame 24, data rate 90) QT H 264 (48k, no compression of audio) I get an error message -32766 and it closes the export status window.

Again in QT, when I use ‘none’ selected from compression settings and uncompressed audio the resulting file is over 6 Gb and every where there’s movement jaggies appear. The image looks like its rasterized to me and it’s very distracting. Elsewhere in the threads I read that M100 is meant to output to tape, so that’s exactly what I’m seeing.

Anyway, I tried it with ‘video’ and ‘cinipak’, and while the files are significantly smaller the quality is very poor. These are all tests. I was hoping even though it’s SD the music is what matters and I’d be able to do the project on my system. Ironically, when I imported DVCAM to iMovie 5, not only was the render time vastly shorter, the file looked fine on playback. No jaggies, but the project is too complicated to edit on iMovie.

I do thank you again for your time, dedication and patience. It’s truly amazing to see this community alive and still at it after all these years.

Missed it, but it didn’t miss me by-a-mile.

Just to confirm: Sony DSR500 doesn’t have input capabilities via FW. I can input, though, through composite and S-video. So, that’s the joint. . .

Correction: the camera is recording through the camera. It’s not taking the signal through the FW, but it is taking the start and stop command. FW is not sending the AV but is sending the start and stop like a remote start/stop button.

Changing the VTR Trigger on my deck to External, maybe. . .

Argh! I’m recording back to my camera. It’s a DSR500, I’ve digitized footage from it, and it’s worked just fine.

I did check the DV check box, and I also made double sure of the input settings. It’s it set to DVCAM, and M100 DV Control. The AV still isn’t going back to the camera. Though it’s behaving just as though it should, it rewinds the tape, and I see the time code in the viewfinder of the camera. But, there’s no video recorded to tape. I just don’t get it. . .

Is any of this make sense?

It’s good counsel, some poeple seem to thrive in this environment, some don’t. I look back and, well, you said a lot there that’s hard to sum up in experience. M100 is a good solution, it really is a rock solid platform. I started in linear editing, so, there were never any calls to Sony to find out what button to push to make this or that happen. It’s a paradign shift to be dependant on a bunch of software geeks just to get the thing to move.

Thank you John for the insight. I did follow the discussion, and in the process came across a really neat peice of sw! It’s called Pacifist, and it allowed me to successfully DOWNGRADE from QT 7.1.5 to QT 6.5.2, and to my amazement everything seems to be functioning again. Haven’t run everything through the paces yet, but my Flash Exporter lit up and I’m rendering a bunch of things I have to get out.

I hope my problems with Boris crashing on me go away, I’m hoping this downgrade gets my system stable again. I think the caveat “if it aint broke, don’t fix it” is a chastening one.
