Tried exporting by reference, and it’s the same thing. When I import to iDVD or iMovie, the footage is squeezed. I can not figure out what’s going on here. I am exporting from Media 100i 8.2.3 in 4:3, and when I import to the Mac programs it squeezes the footage.

Just get the feeling that somehow the updates/upgrades I’ve done on this machine increase the incompatability with legacy 100i system. Really frustrating.

When I first loaded the Flash Exporter, it worked fine and I could render .flv files straight out of Media 100i (QT 7.1). The Flash Exporter still works with iMovieHD (05), so I don’t think the plug-in is corrupted. The only thing I can think that’s changed is the recent QuickTime Updater (QT 7.2).

Any input would be appreciated. I really need to straighten this out. Thanks,

Hi, and thanks – I realize it’s Sunday, but I reallllly have to get this in someones hands for a meeting on Monday.

I checked the QuickTime prefs, and the ‘Enable Flash’ is checked. Not sure if this is anything, but I also clicked on the ‘mime’ settings and checked the ‘other video,’ indicating that I wanted the QuickTime plug-in to handle Flash as well.

In the meantime, I’ve been trying to work-a-round the problem by exporting to iMovieHD (iLife ’05), because the Flash Exporter is working there. Have tried several iterations of QuickTime exports, custom settings: Animation, 29.97 fps, million color, best, NTSC 4:3 (720×486) using the ‘crop’ to keep aspect ratio, being the last. When I import them into iMovieHD 05 the are all invariable squeezed like an SD signal into a wide screen. It forces the image into a letterbox despite that I’ve set up the project as DV (not DV wide-screen). It’s driving me nuts! Also, when I import the same file into iDVD, it squeezes the footage, too.

Curious thing, I imported a tape (4:3) directly into iMovieHD and burned it using iDVD – NO problem. It looks fine and it plays back on a DVD great. Is there a setting I should be using in M100i that will give me the same result when I export?

I guess that sounds a bit confusing, and I apologize, but I need both the DVD and the Flash versions. Do appreciate the answer, like I say, I did check the QuickTime preferences in the System control panel and it is (was) set correctly for Flash.

IMHO, it’s like what Floh says above, there are virually zero viruses in the wild that attack the Mac.

Read in an article from PC Magazine that states since the adoption of the Intel chip on the Mac platform “there may be an increase” – in the future – of this sort of behavior. They acknowledge, at the same time, that the Mac platform has long-since been a virus free environment.

That’s why I was so surprised to see a file reported back to me as infected – didn’t even know it could happen.

In case anyone’s listening in here, have since tried the CalmXav software and it reported back that I don’t have an infected file. Still trying to chase this problem to ground. And, in the meantime I’m not attaching any file as I email. . . will report back of my findings.

Thanks Floh, yeah, I went on to the MacWorld site and got a responce there, as well. Symatec lists this virus from ’01 as discovered. Sounds strange, because I don’t recall opening any files recently from that era. I’m really pretty careful about the files I download, don’t open spurious email attachments, don’t have warez, and only use legit sources. Well, aparently, not. It’s a mystery to me.

Er, as opposed to using Software Updater, but that would load the now current QT 7.2.x., a system update clearly intended for Tiger, and hence unadvisable for me.

Thanks, that explains the problem – craning my neck all the time to see the playback is a pain, well. . .guess I’ll have to put another 8″ on my desktop for confirmation.

I did see the yellow indicator, just strikes me as silly when it scaled down the image to an unworkable postage-size view, even then it seems to drop frames every once in a while.

The HDV cameras also shoot in DV mode, so, if you do not want to make an investement right now in the Sony deck, you simply specify to your shooters that they give you DV tapes. That will work in any DV deck already in your system.

Without getting too much into the nitty gritty, partly what accounts for the larger file size is that when Media 100 coverts DV input to it’s codec it also changes from 4:1:1 color space to 4:2:2? Native DV @ 4:1:1 creates it’s own set of problems and although your locked into what ever signal your camera recorded to tape, you’re better off dizitised to this color space.

What I’d like to see here, and it would make a lot of sense in keeping with a traditional edit paradigm is to have the waveform/vector on playback of the source material once it’s been digitized. At present, I can only see the wave form and vector when I’m inputing, I can’t adjust the levels or the color until the DV footage is on the hard drive. I have to use ColorFX, and the rather, for me anyway, unituitive histogram to determine levels.

It would be a real confidence booster if I could have access to the waveform and vector from any place in the work flow, just the same as I can in any edit bay with a decent patch set-up. For that matter, why can’t I open up as many waveform and vector scopes as I want? I should be able to assign each instance to a window I designate – I mean, isn’t that what computers are supposed to do – extend the capabilities of the editor?
