  • QuickTime 6.5.1 or Is 7.x OK on M100 8.2.3?

I see from various posts that some people have upgraded to QT 7.x, but as far as I can tell, it’s not an official endorsement. I wonder if Floh, or someone would clarify, or point me to the most stable solution on this score.

Last week, I tried to export a 3min peice using MPEG 4, then a plain vanila QT (w/7.0.2) loaded on my machine, and after about 45 seconds in the play back video froze but the audio stayed. Export was configured w/ 640×480, 30fps, in other words, as simple default QT file. I figured it has something to do with my impetously loading QT 7 (last July), and so I tried to remove version 7.x and reload QT6.5.1. However, I discovered to my chagrin, my system, once upgraded to 7.x, will not allow me to go back to 6.x. (Apparently, when upgrading to 7.x, I didn’t read the caveat explaining this, so a friend of mine informs me).

Am I going to be better off going to scratch and reloading everything?

I do apologize for cluttering up the posts here with such neophyte ‘shoot first ask questions later’ kind of mistakes. But, I do appreciate the quality and professionalism of the advice I read here even if my actions belie me.

So, thanks in advance. . .

Er, the footage was imported 720×480, and exported as above, could this have caused the video to stop rendering after 45 seconds?

Er, as opposed to using Software Updater, but that would load the now current QT 7.2.x., a system update clearly intended for Tiger, and hence unadvisable for me.

    Hi Matt
I know that Qt 7.01 on 10.3.9 and M100 8.2.3 worked ok for me. Also I have found in the past that you cannot easily go backwards with some installs, (particulary O/S installs and now it seems QT flavours as well!)

So maybe the solution is to update the O/S to 10.4.6 as M100 says this is ok.(then all your planets are in alignment 🙂 ……)

    Anyone else?
    cheers
