For me, in short:
– The magnetic timeline, although taking months to really get used to (I also came from FCP7), becomes a second nature, and by far the fast way to cut stuff and try out ideas, or doing changes for a client like: “can we put that over there?”
You cannot really judge the timeline before you worked on it for months. Then your brain just automatically starts thinking in terms of “I’ll put that in the primary storyline, this as a connected clip, this as a connected storyline” etc. … But you have to give yourself the time and a lot of cursing, to make your brain think automatically in those steps.– The great organizational possibilities. Keywords, favorites, folders, smart collections, ranges, …
– Did I mention the Timeline Index?
There is a lot of other stuff (effects, quick rendering, templates, meta-data, inspector, …) but the ones I mentioned here are by far what I love most about it.

I also really doubt they will make something new.
They never discontinued their old displays until they brought out the Thunderbolt display. They never discontinued the Thunderbolt display, even if it still had USB2 and Firewire 800. Why discontinue them now? If the 5K display is coming, why make the extra step of discontinuing it NOW and telling people that there are other options?
To be honest, if Apple doesn’t make their own displays anymore, it would make me sad. I did love the Thunderbolt displays, and the old Apple displays. And with the 5K iMac, I thought they would love to make those displays in mass production too, with Thunderbolt 3 arriving.
It does strengthen the image that they don’t care that much about their computer-business anymore, wether I agree with it or not.

I think this is cutting Apple a bit short. There was Final Cut Studio 2 in 2007 (which included FCP6), that not only had Prores, but also had Color (first affordable grading program!), Smoothcam, Optical Flow, 5.1 support, open timeline format, Editing Motion 3 templates without leaving FCP (the whole send to… stuff), …
Which I think, was a huge and important release.
In 2009 they had Final Cut Studio 3, which included FCP 7, and this were only pretty minor feature improvements (although they were welcome), where everyone was kind of disappointed and looking out to what was going to come next.https://mathieughekiere.wordpress.com

NDA for everyone, major new version, lots of enthousiasm in the room…Very curious if this is a release in a couple of days or something that’s weeks/months off and people were given a preview.

Yeah, that’s the one I talked about. I have it, but as often with Pixel-film, using the plugin leaves a lot to be desired. So I’m kind of hoping someone else with better products (Ripple Training, Motion VFX, Hawaiki, …) will make one that has the same concept, but a much better execution.

Yeah I do, although I mean more in an animated clock-way.
Like a customer wants a video for: keep this product 5 minutes cold or something. And you want a clock that animates. And I always could do it in the end, but there never was an easy plugin to make this. It was always a combination of multiple stuff that made it very time-consuming to make a nice animation.https://mathieughekiere.wordpress.com
