I think you’re right, seems to be the way to go.

I’m just amazed there isn’t another option on the drop down:

    Character

    Character exc Spaces

    Words

    Lines

    All

So obvious/simple. After Effects is weird

Yes I would do, but I’d like to use the text animator if possible

    Exported as H.264 1080p Encoding as VBR 2pass Target bitrate 15 max 30. size 1920 x 1080

The 30 sec clip is about 100mb mp4. That seems big to me, but I could be wrong? It was a much smaller file size when I us3d dynamic link

I think I may have changed the positioning slightly in the parent comp. ignore BG colours I added the background (created in Particular) into the parent comp. The BG in the precomp is just a colour I selected when i created the composition originally.

The colour change on the actual logo is a mystery thought. I assumed it was because all the lighting etc is set up in the pre comp?

Thanks Andy. Yes I can go up to 32GB which is on the shopping list. I think (being an imac) the video card is set in stone unfortunately. Although the current mac is due for replacement in the next 12 months, I’m torn between a iMac pro or top spec i9 iMac.

Thanks for your reply. If I render the AE file, won’t that ‘flatten’ the footage? In which case how would you set up a lower third in this instance that needs to appear as an overlay over the original footage?

    Thanks guys.

I’ve attached a screenshot. The first is the pre comp, and the second is the parent. Realise its enlarged to 400% as its a small image but it still shows the difference in quality.

    Depth of field is off.

    Thanks

Thats ace, thanks very much for taking the time to recommend.

Most of the Photoshop style effects I’m already familiar with and things like gradient ramps, CC Sphere etc I also know fairly well.

I guess some effects are more ‘point and shoot’ meaning they do one thing and it’s just a case of messing around with settings. Kaleidoscope being a perfect example of this – pretty straightforward.
