So you like the Z1.. I’ve been trying to determine
what my next Camera is going to be. Right now I’m
    considering:

    FX1
    Z1
    DVX100A/B
    HVX200

The FX1 is obviously the cheapest, but doesn’t support
anything remotely like 24P. I’ve heard/read about the
    CineFrame24 being terrible.

Hopefully at NAB there will be lots of new 24P products
    available.

Did I read the web site correct, that you can shoot at
1080i60 and convert that to 24P to edit and get a reasonable
    movie like look?

Wow, that would be great for the users of Sony Cameras.

    Joe,
Make sure that your DVD is using the DMA interface. Sometimes
this gets setup to us the PIO interface and it can make write/read
    take forever.

    Go to the device manager
Open up the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Right click ont he Primary IDE Channel and select Properties
    Select the advanced tab
Set the transfer modes to “DMA if available”

    Hope this helps.

    Joe,
For the most part I use Premier Pro to do the
encoding. If you break the video up into two pieces
you should be able to get a target bit rate of
4.5Mbits/s. Then just play with the lower bit rate
and highest bit rate. Making the highest bit rate
less than 7Mbit/s has worked okay for me in these
types of projects but then again the quality was just
    DV to begin with.

Also, if there isn’t a lot of fast movement(camera
or object) you can set the quality to 3-3.5 and
the MPEG encoding will move alot faster than at 4-5.

    Hope this works for you.

    Joe,
I just finished a project with 5.5 hours of video
that I split across 3 DVD-Rs. If you use two DVD-Rs
you should be able to get acceptable quality and
4 hours of video. Since DVD-R is lower in cost than
DVD-R DL this might help you out with finances.

    Just my 2cents.

Dang… There goes my VISA card again… 🙂
Smartsound is so useful that I don’t think I’ll ever
be able to say “NO” to them.

Thanks for the update on this. Looking forward to
my copy of SonicFire Pro 4.

    Steven,
Does this mean that we are going to have to repurchase
all the music CDs from smartsound in order for it to work?

Digital Juice’s Stack Tracks has had a feature like this
for awhile. I’ve never used it, but seen the demos.

March 6, 2006 at 6:33 pm in reply to: Can’t do Dolby DVD from PPro 2.0?

    Rich,
Yeah, your right, plugins do cost extra, but I was
just under the impression that PPro and Encore shared
this code, and since Encore can create Dolby Digital I
thought it would work in PPro too. Oh well. If I have
something small PCM will work fine.

On to ENCORE 2.0(which should be fun to play with anyway)

March 3, 2006 at 9:51 pm in reply to: 2 gig Ram Limit in AE 7???

    AJ,
In the readme file for the Production Studio
it mentions that PPro(I know it’s not AE) can
now use up to 3GB of memory if the machine is
configured correctly. It then gives a link to
a Microsoft site. You might want to check this
to see if it applies to AE as well.

February 22, 2006 at 2:19 am in reply to: Nvidia 6800 GS card and PPro2.0?

    Aanarav,
Thats the problem with graphics cards. There are so many
different versions that nobody is sure what is what…
Glad to hear that the mobile version of the 6800 works.
I would think that the desktop version would also.

    Thanks
