Why in the world couldn’t you make an uneven pile with a mask? You just draw the shape you want, and if desired, animate the shape of the mask.

Create a new project with the proper settings, open your existing project, and then either copy-paste or drag all the layers from the original project to the new project.

You’ll then need to manually resize layers to fit the new project size.

No – the Motion preset doesn’t determine the codec, just the frame size, PAR, frame rate. The codec is set on export.

Great suggestions, and along the lines of scripting, there’s a product that does that for you called AutoMotion – feed it a Motion project and a databased of text and it spits out a Motion project for each text instance:

A little pricey but if it saves you a day of work it pays for itself – it can also update all your Motion projects embedded in FCP if you want to make a change.

    Right, 23.98 is always progressive.

Sure – Edit > Project Properties. Or set it up in the preset.

If you are making a standard definition DVD, you have to use a resolution of 720×480, you don’t have a choice. So I’d start with the NTSC-DV preset, duplicate it (in Prefs), make the PAR 1, the frame rate 23.98, and you should be good to go. If you want it to be widescreen, check the Anamorphic checkbox. You can then import that project file into DVDSP for creating the elementary streams for muxing.

    1) Create a circle shape with the circle tool
    2) Color it red
    3) Add the Oscillate parameter behavior to it’s opacity and tweak the settings

I would tweak one of the preset snow emitters to make your snow falling down, then I’d create a screen full of snow either using a replicator or doing it in Photoshop and importing the image – I’d then use an animated mask with a wavy edge to reveal the screen full of snow from the bottom up.

It’s called LayerLink from Ampede but it’s been defunct (unavailable) for a few years now. Any plugin built on the FxPlug architecture will work with Motion. I try to keep a complete list here:
