    That’s the cause, then.

Do you have a lot of Motion text layers in the project? That can bog things down. Particle emitters? Lots of blur filters?

I would first create some text that looks burnt, perhaps in Photoshop. I would then use one of the fire-based emitters in Motion’s Library, or one of the actual fire clips, to create the fire – if with an emitter, you could animate it moving across the letters, revealing them with a mask, or you could do a similar thing with the fire video. If you use the fire video, you’ll need to change the blend mode to Add or Screen to knock out the black background.

I’ll assume you are rendering RAM previews because you aren’t able to get realtime playback and you want to test and tweak your animation.

Have you tried dropping down both the Quality and the Resolution levels (both found under the Render pop-up menu in Motion 4)?

Are you outputting through the Kona card to view on an external monitor? That will kill realtime playback and may affect preview renders as well

There are other things you can do to improve playback performance (like turning off thumbnails in the Layers tab and soloing layers) but it sounds like your main issue is ram previews.

Are you sure you are applying the filter to the mask itself, and not to the layer to which the mask is applied? The filter should appear indented under the mask, not directly beneath it.

You should be able to adjust the font size directly in FCP in the template controls.

The drag and drop method should just replace the style, not the content.

If you bring that new template into your browser, then drag it onto an existing template in your sequence and wait a beat, you’ll see a drop menu with several options for replacing that template, all templates in the sequence, or all templates in the project.

I really should check the thread first. Sorry for the duplicate response!
