    Hi,

I’m making an animation for a DVD menu. It will be a still menu with the last frame of the animation as the menu background.

I made a background of wooden planks, and now I’m trying to make it look like fire burns text into the wood.

I have this book, How To Cheat In Motion, and the closest thing is using fire as the fill of the text. I don’t think that works for what I’m trying to achieve because flames will be cut off from the edge of the letters.

Would someone care to point me in the right direction for making fire look like it is in the shape of text without being cut off from the edge of the text? Does that make sense?

You’re help is much appreciated. Thank you

I would first create some text that looks burnt, perhaps in Photoshop. I would then use one of the fire-based emitters in Motion’s Library, or one of the actual fire clips, to create the fire – if with an emitter, you could animate it moving across the letters, revealing them with a mask, or you could do a similar thing with the fire video. If you use the fire video, you’ll need to change the blend mode to Add or Screen to knock out the black background.

yea, i figured i would have to make burnt letters first, that is the easy part. that is a good idea about the masking though.

    Thanks mark
