We’ve been trying out using a motion master template to generate subtitles for a FCP project and like the idea that you change font or drop shadow in the master and have it update all the subtitle clips in the FCP timeline that you’ve already made.

But we’ve tried reopening the master template in motion, changing font SIZE, saving then returning to FCP and it doesn’t seem to affect the font size of the existing timeline titles. Is there a way to do this? Is this attribute disabled because it’s one of the things you CAN change on individual clips using the motion tab in FCP?

    Thanks

If you bring that new template into your browser, then drag it onto an existing template in your sequence and wait a beat, you’ll see a drop menu with several options for replacing that template, all templates in the sequence, or all templates in the project.

Thanks, Mark. BTW, your tutorials are really wonderful and have helped us a LOT.

we’ve been modifying subtitle clips by selecting one and sending it to editor, modifying the master and saving. That works for everything but font size.

Are you saying it’s better to just open the master independently, change font size and re-import into FCP? If you do that and drag it onto an existing clip, will it try to overwrite the existing text or just change font size?

You should be able to adjust the font size directly in FCP in the template controls.

The drag and drop method should just replace the style, not the content.
