My experience with the plug in has been faultless. YMMV, I suppose.

I usually cut with native files and then make a pro- rez on the way out of the project as a master file. Going native really is a time saver if you can do it.

I shoot a lot of C 300 material and cut it in X . I have the canon plug in and have no issues importing the canon files with out converting the mxf’s before hand.
I think you making an extra step for yourself that you don’t actually need. Just get the canon plug in and go to town.

I’m not sure I understand completely, maybe I have to try some things out. Any suggestions about what might be a good example of something to try?

Thanks for the answers – this is sort of what I thought, but I wasn’t completely sure about whether I was missing something obvious. Clearly any mixer in X would need to be roles based since there ain’t no such thing as tracks any more.

Coming from fcp 7.03 to fcpx 10.1.1 is a little like flying to England and getting in a rental car and driving out of the airport . There is a big paradigm shift and how you deal with that is your choice . You can work through some tutorials and gain some understanding of the paradigm shifts or you can bang your head . I’d suggest a some tutorial work , followed by head banging . You won’t learn properly without some head banging , but it’s better to have an over view of what you want to butt heads with before you actually start butting heads .

I’ve been using Touch off and on for a year …. I don’t do a lot of editing but i do like what this app does for a magic track pad and FCPx.

i’m not up to speed on motion, and while i might be able to alter a copied effect, I’m a ways away from making my own at this point as I’ve never really done anything with motion prior to this time. I’ll keep at it, though.

Yes I am using the secondary screen for the time line because its a larger screen and that’s the way I had FCP7 set up and that worked perfectly .
I suppose I could switch it around but it seems odd and of a waste of screen space to use the larger monitor for the browser

So the gist of this is that FCPx really doen’t function properly in a dual screen situation or is this dual screen odd behavior only with an imac running a second screen?
It would seem odd that FCPx would not run on a dual screen system properly ……

Thanks for the tip . I right after i posted i went back to my project and doodled for a bit with audio and I came to the same conclusion as you advised . I was having some sync problems with the way I was cutting with detached audio which I managed to work around but I knew there had to be a better way.
