  • Like you I had puzzled over how to deal with an offending channel of audio and reached for a FCP7 type of solution which is to delete the offending channel and copy paste the good channel into the now vacant second track. But there is no option to do this in X .
    So in the audio inspector I switched from stereo to dual mono. I also expanded audio so I could see both channels in the time line. In the inspector you should be able to view an audio waveform of both channels and beside each one is a check box. I unchecked the offending channel set pan to the center and got the result I wanted which was the one good channel playing out both left and right.

    I was writing the from memory which sometimes isn’t so good. What you do after switching to dual mono and unchecking the track you do not want , go to pan mode in the audio inspector and switch from ‘none’ to ‘default’ . You’re done.

  • I have wondered the same thing because I used the same workflow you described in FCP7. If you have a clip or clips with a boom on one channel and a lav on the other channel and decide one audio source is better than the other, you can select the audio from the clip and expand it, then in the inspector change the channel assignment from stereo to dual mono, switch off the channel you don’t want , set the pan to center and you have accomplished what you used to do in FCP7.

    I’m on Mavericks and have the C 300 plugin that was put out for Lion and it works just fine. The file structure you have is standard Canon C 300 so you are good there. Once you have the plug in installed, Import> then point to the top level folder of you C 300 material and you should see the list of clips on that card volume appear. You know what to do from there.

    I think It would be helpful if there was a flow diagram describing the back up process with the proper terminology. I’m not exceptionally ignorant when it comes to this stuff, but we are visual folks working in a visual medium and one picture is worth many words. A flow chart to go with the apple white paper would be amazing.

    Canon C 300 . Its close to your upper limit but its a damn fine camera and plays well with FCPX

  • I used import media in fcpx . I selected clips or ranges of clips that I wanted to use , then import selected and brought the clips into the event browser. I wasn’t bringing in whole cards. That said the process is pretty fast. Faster than fcp 7. Give it a shot .

  • I just loaded some p2 avc intra files yesterday into an fcpx project without optimizing media . My sense is that there is no rewrapping of files since the load in was really fast and I’m editing on a Mac mini .

    My mistake – proversionerr does work with 10.1 once it is updated. I thought the app was killed off with the 10.1 release but I was wrong .

    The most difficult transition you have To make creatively is transitioning from your original still frame dimensions to what most likely will be a HD 1920 x 1080 framed movie. Taking a step back, when I shoot the timelapse scene I generally construct my frame so that it is wider than what I think the final frame will be .
    Then I set up a custom projec in FCPX , usually around 4K depending on the pixels dimensions of the still frame.. Once that is done its easy to do some re composing, pans and scans and moves inside of the original still frame dimensions. Motion can be you friend here to help devise a traveling crop of the original still frames into your final, presumably 1920×1080 HD frame size.

    I think you might be mistaken about 1440 P. The 1440 refers to the frame width , which is smaller than 1920. Back in the day of tape ( oh so long ago) Hdcam recordings were 1440x 1080 non square pixels, because tape did not have the bandwidth to record a full raster HD stream, so f900’s recorded 1440x 1080 rectangular pixels. The broadcasters were ok with this as we all know. Canon implemented 1440 recoding in the latest update to create a lower data rate recording format that would still be acceptable to broadcasters.
    What appears above is purely my take on the situation and may not be completely factual, but I think the kernel of it is true.
