Next I’ll ask this question: has anyone on this forum gotten correct metadata from Canon C300 Mk2 ( reel, scene, take info) camera files to import into FCPX ?

So the interesting thing I find is that if I click on an imported wave file in the browser ( I was doing some dual system audio recording) the reel, scene and take number info recorded by my 633 is in the proper fields in the metadata inspector. So maybe it is something in my C300 mk2 camera setup up that is messing up my metadata info about camera files.

I just tried your tip about pasting that long hexadecimal looking file that is in the reel name field into spotlight and i get “no results”….

I tried your suggestion and sure enough there is a reel number selectable in the database list . I had a small amount of C300 files in a card volume that was named something to indicate what it was. I selected the named volume and clicked import, but what I got in the reel name field was this: 0x060A2B340101010501010D43130000008D1BE3BA337605800000852110200057

If that is the reel name in hexadecimal I suppose that’s ok but it would be better if it were in English.

I realize it’s a hypothetical question without the specifics of the shot that we are trying to track. After more research on the issue, our shooting scheme was flawed and no matter what we do at this point we ain’t gonna track our shot. The solution is neither track X , slice X, nor AE. THe solution is political and navigating a reshoot of our short scene and doing it right this time . Thanks all for their input. We were a few centimeters away from making it work, but in the end we have to bite the bullet and reshoot.

[Michael Carter] “There’s nothing that will replace the precision of editing audio in 7, other than “just spend more time on the edit”. I”

Its funny. When I moved to X from 7 I finally felt Like I could edit audio quickly and with a degree of precision I always found lacking in 7. The combination of the waveform display and the granularity to which you can zoom into an audio track in X made audio editing a breeze for me.

I delivered the second of two 18 minute multi cam cuts and after a few fix ups of mistakes I made while cutting, the process was pretty quick . I used proxy media for the cut which worked well on a pocket drive . I think the multicam feature in X is genius . Clip syncing was fast and accurate . Most of all I like how the features in the app make the technical stuff pretty painless and allow me to focus on the edit.

Ok so , today blading and removing sections of clips works. Maybe I need to quit the app when stuff like this happens and re open the project, then try again…..

I dunno . This is weird but not matter how I select a chunk of a clip in the angle editor be it range or blading a larger clip into some smaller sections then selecting, I cannot then delete that selected section no matter what I try. I am running El Cap on my iMac, latest version of x, all updates up to date.

So yeah I get that. I put the whole pick up takes in place with close sync to the master and thought I could carve away the parts of the pick ups not in sync with the master, but when I bladed and tried to eliminate the parts that don’t sync , I couldn’t do it.
I guess I could blade and then shift clips to separate them from the blade point, then do some trim edits, to create some space between clips, then shift them around once I have some space to move.

If I can do it this way then when I make cuts in the angle viewer I’ll know that when I see the pick up angle appear in the angle viewer, I can take it immediately . It will be so much easier in this case if it works.
