I always kept FCP up to date – so it would be whatever was the current version on the date of the file save… November 5 2007. I got this info on Wikipedia: On April 15, 2007, Apple revealed Final Cut Pro 6.0, as the cornerstone of the Final Cut Studio 2 bundle.
I have 18 others saved but I guess they’ll all behave the same. I’ve shared their Dropbox folder : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/z7rb3dzzadfrnng/AADuUgCldRoRA0Y1Nk3spPmEa?dl=0

Hi Warren, thank you so much for taking the time and effort!
It doesn’t sound as if FCP is going to play ball, does it? If you have any other suggestions, please say, otherwise don’t spend more time on this – again many thanks.

Hi Warren – many thanks for the offer… the file upload here seems off, so here are links to the fcp project file (and the one prior to it, in case it works better) :

Good summary Graham… your point
4 – FCP 10.4 does not crash in High Sierra if the media card only has short clips.
explains why things worked out for me as per my last post – was using short clips only

Update from me: have been away from office since original post, but today filmed some XDCAM, popped the SD card into iMac with FCPX 10.4 (no update) open… and no crash. Media imported / transcoded ok to FCP X too.. I have no explanation but thought I’d share.

December 22, 2017 at 1:51 pm in reply to: How risky is it to jump to 10.4? (mid project)Hi – (I posted this in its own post but maybe more useful here) – I suggest not changing if you use XDCAM:
If I open FCP x 10.4 while an XDCAM SD card is inserted in iMac, FCP crashes.
Same if I insert the card when FCP already open.
Same on 2 iMacs, both High Sierra, both 10.4.
Copied card to external HD, import from there = same crash
Dragging the xdcam mp4 from card to Import Media = a green-coloured imported file
Tried in iMovie = same green import.Anyone else got this? I can workaround using Handbrake to transcode the XDCAM mp4 but not ideal.

Cheers Jon – Promise predictably advised only using drives they tested – there are 4tb ones. I just was hoping to max out the r4 with 5tb or 6tb. Also the tested one available on Amazon is more expensive. But am playing safe with a tested Toshiba 4tb x4.
