One of the problems with “Editshare” is that it is a “Volume Based” solution. You may want to investigate Apple’s “X-SAN” for a much more flexible “file based” workflow. Go to the Apple site and do a search. They have plenty of info about it.
I can go on and on about a shared storage environment, but it’s MUCH more complicated and detailed than you can ever get with a simple posting. I would suggest that you find and hire an experienced “Workflow” consultant to help you out.
Here’s a thought to leave you with. With X-SAN, the “SAN” is the project. The actual project is insignificant. You organize you media independent of any project, so therefore, EVERY project can easilly access the same medial. With some simple “rules” about naming and file structure you can easily have a hundred people working on multiple projects sharing the same media.

Ditto the ditto.
We use the FCP 3 way color corrector all day long to create hours of network programming every week. It is a remarkable powerful tool. However, when Apple figures out how to make “Final Touch” more reliable, I’ll be singing a different tune. Until then, it’s all FCP.

This is a wild guess, but how many channels of audio are you trying to “enable”? It’s possible you “black and coded” the tape with a setting enabling only four channels, and you’re trying to lay down more than four. That would keep you from being able to record. Bottom line, you have a mismatch between what you’re outputting from FCP and what the deck is expecting to see. Perhaps between the time you “blacked” your tape and when you did the output, something got switched.
You need to get some tech support to come in and eyeball the deck and the system. Can’t do it this way.

Depends on how much footage you’re talking about. Three hours? or Thirty hours?
Regardless, unless you have t-3 lines at both the upload location and the home office, you’re looking at a VERY LONG process.
do a google search on “Digital Dailies” and you’ll find plenty of companies offering their services. Some offer proprietary boxes to compress and upload the images. Other offer interesting “interactive options” for review and approval. If you’re looking to do this yourself, be aware that in this case there is no “free lunch”. Either you pay for the heavy duty connectivity (t1 or t-3) lines or you’re gonna be compressing it to look worse than “You Tube”.
What are you trying to save, Time or money? You can’t do both.

Have you ever used this deck before or is this the first time? If this is your first time with this deck, know that there are a bundle of settings on the deck that can “ruin your day”. Is this a deck a rental? If so, ask for help from the folks you rented it from.
There’s simply too many settings on that deck to troubleshoot it on a forum. You need someone looking at the deck and comparing settings to get you out of trouble.

[Delusions] “Are you certain I won’t damage any of the media on the Raid
by killing the power on it, just because the G5 is off?”Well, if your G-5 is off, there’s NOTHING writing to the raid, so you should be OK. However, the fact that it’s NOT responding to this power switch can mean that there’s something else going on. Powering up and down is pretty much a universal “cure all” for many ills. However, if you’re that nervous, pay someone to come in and assess your situation. Your peace of mind is worth it.

You’re gonna need an external firewire storage device: I like the “G-Drive” 500gig.
DV deck: Sony DSR-45
External speakers: Take your pick. What matters to you? Size or sound? For good sound, but fairly large size I like the Tapco S5’s.
Small behringer mixer… really just a volume control.
External keyboard and three button mouse: Logic key and Kensington Mouse.
For serious editing, I’d add a large screen ( 23″ cinema display).
With this list, you’ll still be under $10K.

You’ve already powered down the G-5, so no harm in killing power to the raid. Have you tried the power switchs in the back?

Quick answer: Neutral grey with “Daylight” flourescent indirect lighting.
Long answer: Google “Best ambiant lighting for color correction” and you’ll get a ton of hits. Do your homework.
