I’m looking to paint my editing space and add some lighting. What kind of full spectrum lighting is best and what wall color is best. Thanks.

Quick answer: Neutral grey with “Daylight” flourescent indirect lighting.

Long answer: Google “Best ambiant lighting for color correction” and you’ll get a ton of hits. Do your homework.

What is the best way to accomplish this, CIE D65 florescent, metal halide? Is the best position overhead fixtures, tract lighting? Can recommend a product?

The book “Color Correction for Digital Video” has a chapter on design & lighting for color correction & editing suites. I’d expect any similar book to have some brief mention of this as well.

Yes, definitely get that book by Hullfish and Fowler (dmp, I think, check at http://www.dv.com). I’ve learned a lot more from it than only designing the suite.

When we were setting up our grading suite we had the guys from Silicon Color come round to check it out…
they said it was great, but one problem, the paint should be “18% grey”, so I had to paint the whole thing 18% grey…. its the same colour as Shake and Final Touchs’ backgrounds… makes sense when you see it.
don’t forget a daylight lamp behind your monitor
