Best ambiant lighting for color correction
Posted by Jack Fox on January 28, 2007 at 11:31 pmI’m looking to paint my editing space and add some lighting. What kind of full spectrum lighting is best and what wall color is best. Thanks.

Long answer: Google “Best ambiant lighting for color correction” and you’ll get a ton of hits. Do your homework.

Did you mean “Best ambient lighting for color correction”?
followed by a tip saying don’t use quotes.This link may actually be helpful

January 29, 2007 at 1:34 amWhat is the best way to accomplish this, CIE D65 florescent, metal halide? Is the best position overhead fixtures, tract lighting? Can recommend a product?

January 29, 2007 at 3:44 amThe book “Color Correction for Digital Video” has a chapter on design & lighting for color correction & editing suites. I’d expect any similar book to have some brief mention of this as well.

January 29, 2007 at 8:00 amYes, definitely get that book by Hullfish and Fowler (dmp, I think, check at http://www.dv.com). I’ve learned a lot more from it than only designing the suite.

January 29, 2007 at 11:33 amWhen we were setting up our grading suite we had the guys from Silicon Color come round to check it out…
they said it was great, but one problem, the paint should be “18% grey”, so I had to paint the whole thing 18% grey…. its the same colour as Shake and Final Touchs’ backgrounds… makes sense when you see it.
