Mine just started doing the EXACT same thing: slowly zooms on its own, and the top tiny rocker isn’t working.

Nothing else is connected to the camera.

    Any ideas?

Tried that. The project I’m working with now is just the one single frame and two keyframes.

No, there’s only the one video (a single picture, really) on one track.

Thinking it’s a bug in Vegas (which I surely would have run into before), I tried to put some video in front of it and behind it, then tracks above and below, but the behaviour is restricted to the single clip.

I spent a couple hours yesterday trying different things to sort it out, but nothing… Argh!

Could it be that I’m doing two different things within a keyframe — a rotate, and a zoom at once?

    You can also:

    1. SPLIT where you want the freeze,

    2. Move the right part to where you want the freeze to end.

    3. Then move back a frame and SPLIT again to single out a frame,

    4. Then right-click on the single frame and click CREATE SUBCLIP.

    5. Finally, grab the right edge of the single frame and stretch for the duration of the freeze.

I just did a project with a lot of freezes, and this was fast and simple (just three keystrokes, a slide, a right-click, and another slide), and easy to edit afterwards.

Positive. I checked that a billion times. I also checked to make sure there wasn’t another keyframe hidden nearby.

Forgot to mention that I saw the “Using Fractal Noise to Create Fire” tutorial, but I’m looking for something more subtle.

The shot lasts only 5-10 seconds, and will slowly zoom in to the photo while it begins to distort and burn — not necessary to see flames.
