[Alex Hawkins] “Thanks Jon for your suggestion but I have all the latest drivers etc.”

Aah, I think Robert might have the answer there… are you on OSX 10.6.8?
I dont have any lag and I am on 10.6.7.

  • [David Cherniack] “So you don’t need I/o? That would make you a lucky man.”

    lol, yep, seriously… I don’t do broadcast…
I lent someone my DVCAM deck a couple of years ago and have not bothered getting it back.
voice overs? recorded on my EX-1 with external rode mic,
output, never to tape, not for many years.

so even though the Lhe may work on the system, I would prefer AIR in the box than another card doing pretty much nothing other than heating it up 😉

    What do you output to?

  • Hi there David,
Well, the combination of the Asus P6X58D-E mobo and the processor are pretty common, I took advice from advice given to someone else on the Adobe forum, some hardware guru guy there. By IO, I assume you mean my Kona LhE? If so, I have not used the Kona for over 2 years… so will sell it with my MacPro.
Im really excited about the prospect..
    Cheers mate,

  • Hey there David,

Ja, I would do that if I KNEW i was going to work on these projects, but I am doing the safe thing and trying to convert ALL my projects done in the last 6 months… that way if a client suddenly wants a tweak, I am ok… but it may be a LOT faster and OK to keep my Macbook Pro for FCP tweaks and sell my 8core MacPro (dirt cheap)

BTW I decided on an i7 990x system ith gtx 580 and 24gb ram and SSD system drive, very fast and not too expensive.

    Cheers mate,

Only guessing, perhaps the PP is trying to make use of the mercury engine but that is not working for some reason, causing lag in the effort, whereas fcp does no have this acceleration, so does not lag? perhaps something like that? try turning the mercury engine OFF on the PP. Also AFAIK the mac pro HAS to be 2008 or newer to work with accelerated hardware, so if you have an older mac pro like I do (late 2007) you would be out of luck AFAIK…

    alessandro,

[Alessandro Cofanelli] “MISS: better quality motion scale in realtime playback on FCP”

PP is far better, you can bezier control x and y scale and position separately, copy paste keyframes etc…

[Alessandro Cofanelli] “more precise copy/paste/delete attributes. “

select a clip, go to effects control panel, copy attributes you want, select target clips, paste.

    cheers

Guys, do you know if the GTX285 works with Boot Camp in Windows7 on a macpro?

I was under the impression the Quadro 4000 was the only one that worked on a macpro in both OSes

    Hi Mark,
best to leave prores and any other conversion out the picture unless you really HAVE to.
PP can use the files natively, unlike FCP… so no need to degenerate the files by re-compressing.
I am not familiar with how it would work with CS4, but have just moved to PP 5.5 and am running the 30 day trial, importing xdcamex footage no probs.

Yeah, very intersting, similar POV to mine, I just need to save up a bit more cash, and I’m terminating my relationship with Apple products… may keep my MPB for archive projects, in case a client wants a tweak to an past project.

and BTW, the real time acceleration they achieve with that Mercury engine is phenomenal, really amazing if you do multi layered work.

    Thanks Dave.
I was looking at the specs today, the HP workstation proabably about 60% more to buy than to build one similar to yours… and btw, there is no intel mobo with usb3 or thunderplug or whatever its called 😉 – not yet.

    Catcha later,
