August 4, 2007 at 1:50 pm in reply to: FCP crash when loading HELP please!

[Anders Haavie] “Seems like you have messed up the permissions badly. Run diskutil and select fix permissions. If this does not work, the easiest thing might be to make a new user from scratch and install fcp again.

You could also try running fcprescue that will delete your fcp prefs. That usually fixes fcp crashing during startup (however, not sure wether you still have fcp on your mac or not)”

Thanks for the advice Anders, I will do that on monday and will report back… i have no idea what happened really as i wouldnt think fcp would need a user’s preferences for the programme to run.

    Till later

July 20, 2007 at 11:18 pm in reply to: convert PAL DV AVI to PAL DV MOV quickly?

Thanks Russ, i will get that flip thing for sure.

Matrox MPEG2 i-frame is in an AVI wrapper… a pretty good codec, better quality than DV for the same file size, and scaleable. Its not like DVD flavour MPEG2 which is not very good for editing.

excellent that you are paying your poultry dues on a weekly basis.

    till later, thanks

[Russell Lasson] “except for that one experience that forever changed me”

    LOL
well i hope you have seen someone about that! was it at least kentucky fried?

about FLIP4MAC, i actually have not taken possession of my (first ever) mac computer. It arrives next week, in the meantime I have bought suite 2 and am pre-empting all the stuff which will come up.

if i have say 100 clips, some DV, some matrox mpeg2 I-Frame, can i batch convert them with flip4mac? How will flip4mac be different from encoding AVI>MOV?

    thanks mate

[zrb123] “And why should it matter.”

    hello zrb123

hmmm, ok, this is how i see it…

Having unusual non-human screen names makes it difficult to reply because I would have to look several times to carefully type your screen name correctly.

It seems more personal and polite for people to put their name or signature with name at the end of each post. Im not saying you are not being polite, just that I like to address people by their name (which is the way one usually addresses real people!)

it matters only as much as it would matter in the “real” world. Imagine introducing yourself as %zf*wr34. For me it makes the difference between communicating with a real person and a faceless entity.

no biggie, its just much nicer to know who you are. We are a community after all.

    cathca later Zac?

[zrb123] “No you must convert each file. You can do a batch convert, but it will still take time.”

thanks z… (i prefer it when people use real names on a forum like this)

I know that with Premier Pro if you change the .vob extention of a DVD file into .mpg, it can be used as a source clip, so it MAY work. Anyone out there with experience of it working or not? Perhaps there is a utility to change the file header since the digital media contained in the file should be identical as it is identical to the info on the DV tape!

    cheers,

    Hi Larry and David,
NICE to be in your company.
In a few days my 8 core arrives, im pretty nervous about fcp, knowing the real time will be crap compared to axio.

how has the transition with regard to RT been for you larry?

i was fidding with barrie williams’ fcp last week, and was amazed how little it could do without a red line… and often just showed some generic screen saying it needs to be rendered. At least PP will play it back with a reduced frame rate, regardless of how complexed.

aah well, swings and roundabouts i guess. If its much more stable it will be worth it.

    speak soon
