    hi dave
    thanks…
if its not programmable then its not terribly useful since its a command i would want to use often, and any keyboard command i use often MUST be easily done with the left hand.
I will try it anyway… ta

November 16, 2007 at 10:08 pm in reply to: Leopard+6.02 – success stories anyone?

    Hello,
I had the day off so imaged my system drive, upgraded to leopard (did 6.02 yesterday).
FCP seemed fine, and the Kona Lhe seemed a lot snappier when i scrubbed the timeline. There used to be a terrible lag, sometimes almost a second difference between computer screen feedback and video monitor playback, but with leopard it seems at most 1/8th of a second out.

The problem is with Motion in FCP. I had to kill FCP process manually on 5 occasions (pretty much every time I tried to play a motion clip in the FCP timeline). FCP would do a beachball freeze after a few seconds of playback. Both pre-existing and newly created motion clips had this problem.

Otherwise capture, editing, audio all seem fine.

    Back to tiger it is.
    cheers,
    Mark.

[John Davidson] “What’s the deal? Are you waiting for an update to Studio first? Did Apple not provide you with a beta before launch? Were there last minute changes in the final GM that wrecked everything you had done prior to the official launch of Leopard?”

    Hi John,
I agree wholeheartedly that things have been very slow in coming, both from Apple and Aja… and Leopard has been available for months and months now – and though these things take plenty of time, im sure nobody is just being lazy. Perhaps Apple and Aja’s priorities have been focussed on money making new products rather than important updates for their present customers… so please, “Whine” on!!!

[tneilson] “he route I took was — remove all traces of APE, clone drive, and upgrade ( not erase, not archive). and it worked, even my AJA Kona LSe without new drivers.”

Hi all, thanks a lot for the input. Its a cold crisp english morning and i really wanna go do the deed, but i had forgotten about the Lhe driver issue… hmmm. Perhaps i could clone the system drive, and then do the upgrade. If it fails, restore the image.

    I will report back later
    ciao

    PS
    what is APE?

    Hi there Walt,

Yep, I agree totally, CS3 interface is great, love the darker
grey with thin yellow line around the selected panel. Even Motion and Color have a darker interface… much easier to see stuff that matters.

    till later
    Mark.

  • ooh yeah, that does the trick.
    thanks mark

  • Hi nick, yep, that works, but then it pastes ALL filters, and so your dummy clip would have to have exactly the same filters, no more. It also applies the filters scaled to the clip size, so if you have a short clip and a very long one, the filters will animate very slowly for the long one, which is usually not what i want.

    thanks mate

November 14, 2007 at 8:05 am in reply to: Musings about Cores and Memory and FCP, Oh My.

    hi all
it makes me wonder too because ive recently come off premier on PC, and my 8 core with 4 gig ram and a comparable graphics card is a little slower than my dual dual core opteron 275 HP9300 with 4 gig ram and no Axio hardware. (both using similar storage and native DV captured files)

    strange hey?
my guess is it is NOT the system but the FCP software.

Aah, good, so it may be happening sometime soon, Aja people, and dates yet?

The big Q for me, will it be fine to run FCP and PP3 on the same system, ie will the Lhe drivers which run PP3 be ok for FCP too.

    tot siens,
    Mark.
