  • Feature Request – Better Interface Navigation PLEASE

    Hello guys,

At present there aren’t sufficient commands to navigate the interface properly. There are two main problems.

1/ the Q key to toggle canvas and viewer does not work if the bin is selected
2/ the CMD-1, 2, 3, 4, 5 have this nasty behaviour of minimising if you press it when the relevant window is already selected. This happens very often, and I cannot see any reason why a minimise window command could not be a separate one.
3/ the CMD-4 and CMD-5 keys do not do what they should in that if you have the effects tab selected, pressing CMD-4 should bring up the browser, but what it does inadvertently is make it shrink.

I think there should be a keystroke to tab between all panels.
There already is a keystroke to toggle between tabs, and this helps enormously when you have several open timelines.

    Tx
    Mark.

I’ll throw in the request for a darker interface.

Adobe has a nice slider that allows you to run the interface light, medium or dark.

Apple’s iMovie has a nice dark interface now.

Darker interfaces are easier on the eyes and much better for color grading a project.

    Hi there Walt,

Yep, I agree totally, CS3 interface is great, love the darker
grey with thin yellow line around the selected panel. Even Motion and Color have a darker interface… much easier to see stuff that matters.

Good lord, the list of stuff that’s wrong with FCP’s interface is huge and we’ve been screaming about some of the junk since v1 and v2. If you want to have some impact on the application, post to the FCP Feedback folder on apple.com’s discussions. The FCP team may or may not pay attention to the cow regardless of what they tell Ron and Kathy.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    Mark,

There is an undocumented keyboard shortcut that will cycle through all open windows in FCP. It may be an OS command, but it works in FCP. Cmd+Opt+Tilde.

Works on my system in FCP 6.02

Sorry it’s Cmd+Shift+ Tilde & it is an OS command. Should work in any program.

    hi dave
    thanks…
if its not programmable then its not terribly useful since its a command i would want to use often, and any keyboard command i use often MUST be easily done with the left hand.
I will try it anyway… ta

    Hi Mark’

Thumb & 2 fingers on the Left hand work for me in all the programs in the suite.

i guess if its a system keyboard command i may be able to programme it to be something that does not require looking at the keyboard then doing finger gymnastics! – like the little key to the left of the 1 which is ` in the UK.

    thanks Dave

The remapping of this function to a single key appears to be broken. I’d really like to remap itto the F13 key.
