January 16, 2011 at 5:38 pm in reply to: How to TARGET / keep logos upright in spinning circle ?

Hi Ted, thanks for the response…

I have now told all the logo layers to be auto-oriented on a path.

Each logo does not have a path, but are parented to a circular shape layer. When I rotate the shape layer the logos do rotate, but do not stay upright.

My project is 2D, so there is no 3D camera. I guess I do not have an actual “path” but dont see a way to convert the shape layer to be the path for each of those logos without Parenting.

If I take one of those logos and create a circular path for it and apply auto orientate, the logo always stands with it’s “feet” on the globe, ie its as though the logo is standing on earth as the earth revolves. I want it to look like a ferris wheel, where the people sit upright no matter where they are in the circle.

    Tx again

I really do hope these are just rumors, usually around this time, every second year, there are release rumors… but its been very quiet on that front.

I had to laugh at this quote from the story that started this thread:

“a report claimed that Apple was looking to transition Final Cut Pro Pro from a strictly professional product to more of a “prosumer” offering, but Apple CEO Steve Jobs dismissed those concerns, stating that the next release of Final Cut Pro “will be awesome” ”

hysterical, but sad… hearing that from the king of hyperbole engenders no comfort at all 😉

    Hi

This problem was caused by a faulty circuit board, unfortunately the main board of the camera and costs about £1800 or so to replace.

The cause, they say, can be by inserting and removing the firewire cable when things are on (I did not use the firewire at all).

You will have to go to your sony repair people, free if under guarantee, if not $$$ im afraid.

July 13, 2010 at 10:54 pm in reply to: Proxy edit, how to replace proxies with HD footage?

    Hi Jeremy
Actually I don\’t know, it was sent to us from the USA via yousendit and the hd sent days later on a drive. Next time I will insist on exact name matches or overnight hd sending!
    Thanks again all,
    Mark

  • Hi Noah,

    Thanks for the response.

hmmm… so the workflow would assume the proxy and HD clips have the same name, and they would be relinked just like any media you were re-linking?

I thought there would be some other method. How then would the proxies which relate to only PART of an HD file actually then be re-linked? The HD clip was 45 mins, the proxies 9 mins something. Are the proxies created automatically by the camera?

    Thanks again,

    Mark.

July 3, 2010 at 8:25 am in reply to: colours messed up, cannot reliably match colours

Hi Mark, thanks for that, interesting, but not what I was experiencing.

The colours were a lot less similar to the ones in your example, which may have been accentuated by the bug you show here. Also the colour matching by picker is very flawed in my experience, because the picker in Motion will show different rgb values for the same colour, depending on which monitor I use the picker on!!! So it seems to pick a colour depending on what it looks like ON THE MONITOR rather than it’s real “computer value”.

    Catch you later,

Hi Zak, thank again for the response mate,

On friday I had to match it by eye, using the same rgb values was way off (not even close!) I then rendered an uncompressed apple version and am now holding thumbs the client will approve.

I hope the motion team at apple know about this, it really isnt good enough to be used in a professional environment. It is embarrassing when they give me exact rgb values, and I give it back to them looking a different colour.

WRT the hex values, AFAIK, every rgb value has a hex value. the client supplied exact rgb values, so I would have to go with what they gave me, unfortunately Motion had a very different idea of what that blue colour should look like.

    thanks again,
    Mark.

    Hello Zak

Hex values are just convenient, not better or more accurate than entering RGB or CMYK values.

I have entered the correct values. Exporting Prores 4444 or 422HQ or Apple Uncompressed all alter the colour upon export. If I bring the MOV back into the project it shows a different blue from what was originally there, so the problem is with Motion’s export.

    Hi Zak,

Nice tutorial, but it does not answer my question.

I want a way to have a specific colour be identical after being input and output in Motion.

My client’s blue colour is 0, 175, 240 which is easy to create in Motion, but when I render it out, the colour is COMPLETELY different from their brand colour. Motion renders the colour and changes it.

    Tx
