Here is Adobe’s comparison of the two. Here’s my take on it: If you are more technical in the audio venue, Audition is for you. If you are a video editor and it just so happens that you need sound on the video, then Soundbooth might get you where you need to go.

However, please note — I have not used soundbooth — I’m just giving you my take on Adobe’s comparison.

2 Gigs of RAM will probably be enough for you.

There is a low ceiling on the amount of RAM that you can use with XP. Motherboards can support gigs upon gigs – but XP can only support 4 and takes special boot switches in the ini files to get it to use 3 of the 4 gigs.

Here is an article by Microsoft on the limits of OSs in regards to RAM.

    https://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;555223

The time proven way of getting a system to do what you want is to identify your software app you want to run and get the developer’s recommendations (adobe.com). Then find out what OS your app runs on and get that developer’s recommendations — hopefully they will be close.

Once you get that leg work done, run the list past this group or a hardware group before you spend any money.

I am not sure that I understand fully what your problem is but I did gather that there is about a 1 second blank of audio at the beginning of the video. You did not say if the 1 second delay is maintained throughout the video — so I am assuming that it is.

Rather than figure out the 32 bit conversion, I would tend to fix the problem by selecting the video and audio clip, right click in the context sensitive menu select unlink audio and video. Then cut the audio file in the premiere pro sequence with the razor blade (“C” Key), they select the blank area (“V” Key), remove the blank area with the delete, and then slide the remaining audio closer to the start of the video.

Here is a tutorial on After Effects that shows you how to jump out to Photoshop to do what you want. Compare your settings in the dialog box with those in the tutorial. The Photoshop stuff starts around 1:10

You could capture the output in a digital format via the analog hole as it is generated with a software package such as fraps. But you’ll need to check the rights to use such material.

If you want to try a different route, try a software presentation package called Media Shout by Media Complete. https://www.mediacomplete.com

It will handle the video and the powerpoint presentation very smoothly without trying 57 different variations. There used to be a fully functional free trial that runs for 15 sessions — I think they still do that.

We use it regularly for video, animations, sound effects, music, graphics, lyric display, DVD cues and even powerpoint –though you will find that its built in functionally is even better than powerpoint.

June 17, 2007 at 10:35 pm in reply to: Music Liscencing?

Legally the song belongs to the artist who wrote the song, the arrangement belongs to the composer and most likely they are in a binding agreement with a publisher who markets their product and represents them.

Performance Rights Organizations (PROs) exist which sell to the public the right to use or perform their member’s music. There is a difference between a license which allows a group to perform a piece of music in a public performance and a license that allows them to record that music with the intent of making a profit (whether realized or not). I think PROs call the license a “mechanical license” and that license does not give you the right to reproduce the lyrics nor a cue sheet.

You need to locate the PRO of the song or publisher of the songs you wish to play. PROs in the US are ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC. (ASCAP.com BMI.com SESAC.com )For a list of PROs in other parts of the world, check out iamusic.com.

My advice is that if the client refuses to hire a copyright attorney, I’d walk away. In this type of post production work the worst case scenario is not that the DVDs don’t sell and you don’t get paid. The worse case scenario is that they do sell and you’re not covered legally and you loose everything you’ve earned and them some.

    Aharon,

I’m in Sarasota and have learned so much from your tutorials — even how to do tutorials (think that was a COW article). I do AE stuff for a local church. If you would like to have a great lunch at a place that is definitely “old Florida” let me know. I’d love to meet you and you’ll get some great food in an atmosphere that can’t be duplicated.

Are you in town for the film festival or the beaches?
