Good tip, and anything under 78 keystrokes is a super-duper shortcut!

I’m wrestling with the new paradigm, and I wish I had a pair of dimes for every time I got hosed by the paradigm.

One of the things I like about FCP7 is that all the different workflows become so intuitive. In FCPX, I can think of 5 or 6 possible ways to do something, and it often seems like only one has been implemented, and I have to try to figure out which one it is.

Just one more way they’ve messed me up. So if I want to save a bit of a sequence, but not necessarily the entire sequence.

Adrian… thx for the tip on takeoffvideo. I’m going to check that out.

Chris… never had heard about quiettube. I love it. I’m definitely going to use that for future youtube links.

I’ve got dropbox, and I’m using it now. It’s very easy to upload, and I love that I can send a link from my phone.

It’s a bit annoying that the best way to share is for the client to install dropbox as well. Not as foolproof as youtube.

I must get around to creating my own website. Now that mobile me is going away, I can use that $100/year for webspace.

Great tip.

Still feels like a workaround. I used to think the past attributes dialogue in FCP7 was klunky, but I appreciated how powerful it was and now I miss it.

I’ll bet when you turn the blue boxes off, and on again after you do your copy, that things get unrendered. More extra steps.

And in FCP7 I often drag an effect with parameters right into a bin… like a particular color effect. Need a workaround for that.

I like the new features of FCX, but I’m sure going to miss all of that flexibility.

I was unclear.

I have flip4mac.

My question is, once you have created the wmv file, how do you get it to the client. I’m often working with non-technical types who don’t know how to tell their pc which program it should use to open mp4 files.

I’m tempted just to use youtube, and make it an unpublished movie. Everyone can watch youtube files, it just feels so unprofessional.

You can’t make it too easy to totally shift paradigms, can you?

Since I don’t imagine they will either change it back or explain why they changed it the question becomes do you retrain your fingers, or customize the keyboard to reflect what your fingers already know?

I made it a point to not change keyboard shortcuts in FCP7 but try to retrain my fingers, because they had shortcuts already assigned for most everything.

Since there are so many functions that aren’t mapped yet in FCX, it precludes that everyone will have some sort of customization. I’m still leaning towards keeping the ones that are already mapped.

I may break that rule for cmd-I since I’ve been startled by my ugly mug on the built in camera more than once.

I find it amusing to think that on our Xpri system at work, I’m still using several Avid shortcuts I customized 8 years ago, which was about the last time I edited in Avid.

Interesting. Do you think it’s just mislabeled?

You can step through the fields holding down the option key as you hit right or left arrow.

You can also override the field order, so hopefully if it’s a bug, it’s not a deadly one.

If the audio from the handheld camera isn’t as clean, it may be difficult for the software to sync them up.

Since it sounds like you have two very long clips to sync, I’d do it by hand. Find some distinct action to sync the two clips to. I do it all the time, and it never takes very long.

If your intention is to cut between the two cameras, you’re better off making a multiclip in FCP 7 since FCP X doesn’t have multicam yet, but it will hopefully soon.

I noticedtim finder that there is a project file in the projects folder. I wonder if we can occasionally copy that into another folder and if replacing a corrupt project file with the saved one would bring the project back to life.

If that works there might be a way to create a finder automation that can create a copy every ten minutes and save them in an attic.
