    Hi,
Just a word of warning, I had a project go corrupt on me and now whenever I try to load it into the timeline I get a crash….. luckily I had made a copy of it in a compound clip in an event so had a backup… but what a nightmare if I hadn’t… be warned!!

If only there were a way to go back to an earlier version. Some are hoping this would be possible in Lion.

I’m wondering if copying a project periodically as sort of a Save As would have helped. The problem is trouble shooting why the project went corrupt.

I noticedtim finder that there is a project file in the projects folder. I wonder if we can occasionally copy that into another folder and if replacing a corrupt project file with the saved one would bring the project back to life.

If that works there might be a way to create a finder automation that can create a copy every ten minutes and save them in an attic.

You can also have an Event get corrupted which is what I’m dealing with now. I had copied my project and have a backup of that but neglected to copy the Event. All of your organization, key-wording, marking of favorites, synchronization of clips, etc. etc. lives in the Event file. So definitely back up both the Event and the Project files!

Might be a dumb question, but how did they corrupt?

Worked one day and not the next?

No idea at all…. happened after I added a motion generator but that could be just co-incidence…
I’m backing up projects and events now but I’ve over 190 gigs of events after just a couple of weeks work and a few small projects (and I don’t copy the master media)… they really need to look at file management…

[Jonathan White] ” they really need to look at file management…”

This looks interesting as a way of keeping some order on jobs…

I’ve been banging on about this on the FCP-L list, its my biggest issue about FCP X that there is nothing like autosave to protect you from a corrupt file or a disk that dies.

IMHO its the one the biggest issues that stops FCP X being a pro piece of software!
