Best Practice for WMV client approval

I was unclear.

I have flip4mac.

My question is, once you have created the wmv file, how do you get it to the client. I’m often working with non-technical types who don’t know how to tell their pc which program it should use to open mp4 files.

I’m tempted just to use youtube, and make it an unpublished movie. Everyone can watch youtube files, it just feels so unprofessional.

Don’t forget: This is why we get paid. If they knew that they could edit it themselves in QT, perhaps, they wouldn’t call us. I usually sent files over in email or upload on ftp server.

Hi Mark,

I use https://www.takeoffvideo.com when I need to show content remotely.

I live in France, my direct client was in Copenhagen, and their client was in Greenland.

It gives you your video with a timeline, allowing clients to stop the playback, add a comment, then continue watching. You can then add replies to those comments, upload changes etc etc. You can control levels of access, who can upload etc. You can setup email notifications for when comments are added. You can upload graphics, scripts or whatever I guess.

It worked flawlessly and I would definitely recommend it wholeheartedly.

AND it’s free – at the moment.

It just crossed my mind. Why none of us ever used such fantastic invention as iChat Theater Preview? Sorry if I seem to hijack the thread but I think Apple designed it specifically for this kind of situations – when your client is so..eh…dumb. You just hit the button and video is there. What do you think about it?

you have to have ichat to use ichat theater. and if they don’t have a mac that’s not going to work.

We create a webpage for the client.
Put their logo on it too.

Create links there for downloads.
Direction on there how to download the files.

Send them the link.

You can send a free Dropbox or yousendit.com link.

Also, unpublished YouTube is not necessarily unprofessional, I do it all the time.
A nice way to do it, though, is to send them a Youtube link to a page that DOESN’T have all those
lousy comments and other videos.
To do that, use the free: https://quietube.com/ link, so your video will look like this:

Adrian… thx for the tip on takeoffvideo. I’m going to check that out.

Chris… never had heard about quiettube. I love it. I’m definitely going to use that for future youtube links.

I’ve got dropbox, and I’m using it now. It’s very easy to upload, and I love that I can send a link from my phone.

It’s a bit annoying that the best way to share is for the client to install dropbox as well. Not as foolproof as youtube.

I must get around to creating my own website. Now that mobile me is going away, I can use that $100/year for webspace.
