Did the update cure the wild drive sizing error? You know, when you look at a 200 gig volume and it reports the volume as 221.87 gig. Snow Leopard has never reported this correctly.

As you can see, this is an Apple issue that needs to be dealt with swiftly. But in true Apple fashion… we are ignored. Apple applied a fix and told us to update the ProApps Kit. But it still occurs. Not as bad, but still lingers.
The issue that angers me is the Motion templates inside of FCP. Yeah, they work but FCP will crash like a dog every time for me. I’ve had to go outside of FCP to fill-in the templates, render them out into my working codec and then drop them into the timeline. This feature has NEVER worked properly since its introduction.

Look…. If you play a 16:10 video on a 4:3 tv, it’s going to be letterboxes. No ifs, ands, or buts. That’s the way it is.
The only option is is to do a center punch. That is to cut off the sides so that it fills the screen. Unless, you squeeze the video to fill the screen.
The problem here is that your client does not understand video and unwilling to accept the reality of video.

What software are you using to create your DVD?

No… Not at all. I have a project that was HDV – ProRes422 converted or its just a ProRes422 project that used Log and Capture to capture all of the footage using the AJA Kona 3 capture card. If I try to playback anything anywhere, I get a garbed color noise picture on my Panny BT-LH2600W monitor UNTIL I change playback to 8-bit.
The card has all of it update software and firmware for 64-bit operation (which I know is another thing than video color bit rates). I can ONLY see in 8-bit video. Any other settings is color noise. Its not a problem but an annoyance.

Any place. This happens in the Viewer and in the Canvas windows.

Also, make sure that you have the latest software from Sony on your camera system. Being on the bleeding edge of technology does have its costs and Sony is notorious fro being slow to market with drivers and updated software. Case in point, when Sony came out with the XDCAM series, it took them a year to get the drivers and software for FCP, then another year for FCP to fully support XDCAM.

Well… I can tell you I just spent a week dealing with render errors using ProRes422 using footage that was convert from HDV to ProRes422 on the fly capturing.
I’ve come to the conclusion with my deadlines… I’m abandoning the ProRes thing all together and capturing in DVCProHD. The render times are so much faster, the quality is equivalent and overall, I’ve had lots less issues using DVCProHD.

Oh yeah… And who was the moron at Apple who decided that when you convert video in Compressor that audio was to be pass-through instead of the proper setting for the codec and proper to be used in FCP.
I’m sorry… But I have to vent about all of the stupid things in FCP that take way too much time to be dinking around with for absolutely no reason.
