Before we get started… There is no 1080i 24 fps footage. 24 fps is a progressive format so to correctly identify your footage, it should be 1080p 24. And most likely since it was shot with the V1U, its 23.98.
Sounds like maybe the original footage was captured incorrectly. This will make you footage look jumpy like you are saying. Since you say you are mixing lots of footage are various frame rates and screen sizes, it very likely this was captured incorrectly. Capturing 1080i footage as 24p will make it very jumpy at times.

Oh, come’on gang…
This is easy.
Take all of your imported clips that you want to combine into one clip – drop them into a sequence and export that to disc. It will make one clip however long you want to the end of the disc.
You can do this natively in the XDCAM codec.

I thought I heard that the PDW-700 will accept the dual channel slot receivers. I may be wrong and that would surely be Sony to do something like that. But I’m pretty sure that I heard that from the floor at NAB.

Sony does have a dual channel slot receiver that was at NAB and I know someone whose been using it for a while now.
As for numbers of slots…. We have the first generation XDCAM HD and it uses a slot receiver that is attached to the battery mount since the camera doesn’t have a slot on-board. Maybe this can work with it.

Well…
Unlimited RT give you the option of viewing your footage in realtime with effects applied as much as the computer can view. It does this by reducing the resolution of your footage to a level that can be played back in realtime.
This ONLY affects the playback of your sequence, not the rendered output that you may need when outputting. This saves lots of time when editing because you don’t have to render every time you want to see something in your sequence.
You can choose you settings as you wish. SafeRT causes you to render anytime an effect is applied.

Do you Unlimited RT turned on?
This will give you better previews without all of the rendering. That is, if all of your footage is of the same codec as your Easy Setup.
Otherwise, the only way to get faster renders is to purchase a new Mac with fastest chip you can afford.

A couple of things could be going wrong…
First, HD is upper field dominant, not lower like SD video. The Compressor settings don’t always get this right. Besides, its best to de-interlace while compressing. Video for the web doesn’t like interlaced video.
The other is amount of fps (frames per second). Most video for the web is 12-15 fsp. This will cause the jittery effect that you see. You can set your Compressor settings to anything you want such as 29.97 if you like.

I have to ask….
What res is your footage? Is it HD or SD?
I ask this only because we had a situation a couple of weeks ago and I found that the filter was setting my HD footage to lower field dominance. When in reality, HD footage is upper field dominant. SD footage is lower field.
This will cause your footage to become jumpy or jittery. Take a look to see if this is happening.
