Actually, what I am asking is… Does anyone use eSATA drives (an eSATA card in slot 2) along with an ATTO fibre channel card at the same time in the same system?
We need more space but with today’s economy, an upgrade to our TerraBlock is out of our budget… So, we have to have more space to do more projects. We were thinking of adding eSATA local storage to each of our systems and using the TerraBlock for immediate projects only.
We do lots of programs and being able to get ahead by logged and capturing ahead of time would be a real time saver for episode edits, thus the local storage for temporary storage until the project needs to be edited. And sometimes, we all get those little projects that don’t need to talk up room on the TerraBlock.

If you are downloading the proxy files when you first insert a disc, you can’t save for rename anything. These operations can only happen after the proxies are downloaded.
What version of the Sony Transfer Software do you have installed? 2.7 seems to be pretty stable.
You have to wait until the proxies are loaded. After that you can change the name of the clips and name your disc – BUT – you have to save it to the disc to be any good to you later.

I would HIGHLY recommend Panasonic’s BT-LH2600W monitor for editing. Its price is very reasonable and the picture is out of this world. Many use it for color correction and it’s little brother, the BT-LH1700, is used widely on many many shooting locations for major productions.

If you are shooting 24p, then the shutter would be set to 1/48th. If you are shooting, 30p or 60i, you use 1/60th. If you want a stuttered look for effect, you’d increase the shutter. For blurred motion, you’d set to slower than your frame rate.

I think you are still missing what I am saying…
When you watch TRUE 24p on a monitor, there will be some stuttering. This is because 24p doesn’t translate to 30p or 60i equally. This is the reason for pull-down.
In order to do smooth pans and fast movement in 24p, you need to have your shutter properly set for the effect (usually runs at 1/48th) and the speed of which the pan happens has be of an equivalent of 24.
FCP is totally capable of handling XDCAM HD. XDCAM HD runs at an average of 5.8 mb/s. Well with range of ANY single hard drive on the market. I have even edited XDHD on a dual 1 gHz G4 Mac without problem.
We do this all of the time and don’t have this issue you are speaking.

When in doubt… trash your preferences and restart FCP. You’ll be surprised how much this can cause you headaches.

WOW… That’s alot of work to do before you trash your preferences.
ANYTIME FCP is acting weird or not behaving properly, TRASH you preferences first, then if all else fails do a clean install.

I think that if you look at the major motion pictures today and some of the TV programs that are currently airing… You’ll see that its not what you have, but its how you use it.
Yes… Anyone can purchase this stuff but most don’t know how to use it properly.

I apologize… I left that answer out.
This is done in your preferences of the Sony Transfer Software program. Select the Import tab and look down to the section called Filename. There you’ll see your options for how you want your filename to be saved as.
This area also is where you would be able to import only the selected audio clips. This is very useful.

Well, let me explain it this way…
Aren’t you “logging” the discs?
The “Information” area is for the disc itself. The “Logging” area is for the clips located on the disc.
You log clips and change the information of the disc. Simple as that. After make ANY changes to Information or Logging, you’ll notice that the disc icon on the upper left corner has a dot next to the name of the disc. This means that your information and logging info has not been saved to the disc yet. You can do either an Apple-S for Save or go to the menu File – Save. After you do this, all of your logging info will be saved forever to that disc AND a copy in your Sony Transfer Software program on the computer you logged the disc.
