    Hello all
I am using a 2 month old system and suddenly this week when I click on FCP the menu shows the last application I selected before FCP.

I can scrub the FCP timeline, but if I press space bar, it will perform the action it would in the program I was using previously. For example, if I had been using firefox and then click on FCP to use that, and press space bar, Firefox will scroll the page. Whatever part of FCP I click on, it does not show FCP in the menu and I have to CMD-TAB to the FCP icon to gain regular keyboard command access to FCP.

    Is that weird or what.
It happened since yesterday, so switching off the computer has made no difference.

    Any suggestions much appreciated.
    TX
    Mark.

    Relaunch your Finder.

    Hi
I get this in Tiger if I switch the foreground application away from a program that is working hard – FCP capturing for instance. Then I can only get back to FCP by Cmd-Tabbing.

I find it sort of reassuring, FCP saying ‘I’m busy – don’t interrupt’ 😉

    Hi there
I am using Leopard, and FCP is doing nothing at all!
Reloading the finder does not work, neither does rebooting the computer or FCP.
    This is very strange.
    tx anyway.

    Hi Mark.
When a MAC start to do things like that is the moment to repair permissions and run DiskWarrior or TechTools.

    thanks rafael,
at the moment i am reinstalling fcp and compressor, because compressor is not loading properly. I will try that if this does not work.

now fcp is trying to install audio content even though i had deselected them – grrrr…

WOW… That’s alot of work to do before you trash your preferences.

ANYTIME FCP is acting weird or not behaving properly, TRASH you preferences first, then if all else fails do a clean install.

    Tell me about it!

When I started the re-install, the Installer said 500mb, and now it says 4 hours to go!
    Insane.

Apple really should get it together. One should be able to uninstall and reinstall any component without any problem.

    Hi Wayne,
Trash preferences is, for me, one of the last things to do.
I think that the most part of the application malfunctions come from no optimized systems.
In the case of Mark I don;t see any FC problem, but a Finder not working as should do.

both the poltergiest FCP with no keyboard commands and the compressor not working issues were sorted by a reinstall… next time I will try the settings/disk utilities/permissions etc first.
