As the subject already briefly pointed out, I’m in trouble! Deadline is approaching and I need any help possible. I appreciate your time and effort!

    Here’s the scenario:

I’ve done numerous shoots with my HVX200E & FS-100. Until now it was smooth sailing, no problems what so ever. Until today! I tried to transfer files from my P2 hard disk but some clips (30%) showed a red exclamation mark. “Error: No Data”. After some research on Apple’s forum I unchecked the “Remove pulldown and duplicates” but no difference what so ever.

    + Obviously I used “Manage P2” on the FS-100,
+ I assume the auto generated names (e.g. 0431WQ) are not too long, they never caused problems,
+ I unchecked “Remove pulldown and duplicates” and restarted FCP 6,
+ Some of the clips are spanned, some are not,
+ When I reconnect the FS-100 to my HVX200 I’m able to playback all the clips
+ Even in the “Log and Transfer” window I can select the clip and play before dragging in the queue window,
+ I used “Repair Disk” feature on the FS-100, everything was fine; no errors reported,

Clips where shot in DVCPRO50, if that is important, and clip length varies from 25 seconds – 11 minutes.

    Hi,

normally there shouldn’t be a problem. To our Experience we keep fingers off these FW drives. They caused a hell of problems whatever. We stick to P2 cards. They are reliable with a solid connection. There could be a hardware problem with the FS. Try to copy the whole content Files on an externat HD. If they copy you have at least no hardware problem. If all of the clips show up in the log and transfer, try to copy them through FCP one by one. First of all write down all the clips showing in the camera. When transfered check whether they play. Then mark the clips successfully transferred on your tracking list. Then you know which clips are probably corrupt.
My advice: Don’t use FW attached drives with p2 cameras.

    good luck

    Rainer

When in doubt… trash your preferences and restart FCP. You’ll be surprised how much this can cause you headaches.

    Koen,
Any luck with the HVX-FS-100 transfer problem? I’m standing in your shoes and none of this makes sense.
    thanks

    Hi Greg,

Yes and no. My files were damaged and I tried the following methods to get them fixed:
    – Organize P2; did not help
    – Repair files/disk function; did not help
    – Transfer all the files and folders from the disk to you local hard drive and then select that folder in FCP to log and transfer; this did help with some files, but not all.

I ended up with still some corrupted files. I formatted my drive and decided to stick to a strict routine every time I would use my Firestore. It does work great, by the way, for everyone who’s pulling it down. I’ve recorded many, many hours of video, ranging from Holland, to Egypt, and Suriname, where the humidity is 80%.

What you have to do to keep you disk organized is the following:

Always format your drive after transferring your files to you Mac, or before next use!

The problem lies within the organizing ebfore transferring. If you shoot on Tuesday, press organize P2 and transfer the files to you Mac, then without formatting start shooting again on Wednesday and press again organize P2, the XML structure gets mixed up. Certainly if you do this numerous times.

The problem is that is does not always happen. That makes this problem so frustrating. But to be safe format your drive after transferring / before shooting.

Good luck and I hope this will help you in the future.
