RAM must be installed in matching pairs across risers. So, if you installed 2 gig into Riser A, you have to install 2 gig into Riser B to get a memory config of 4 gig.
Your best bet is to see if you can swap out the memory for four 512 meg bars and install them across the risers.

Here’s probably the issue..
Memory is a main issue with the Mac Pro. Memory HAS to be installed in pairs across the two risers. Memory also needs to be from the same manufacturer along with the same size across risers. There are lots of memory companies on the market BUT only a select few make memory that is stable enough to run on the Mac Pro systems.
I had this same issue with my system. I called ProMax (whom I bought the system through) and talked with them on this issue. They have found out that most of the memory that is made for the Mac Pro is very unstable. So far, Kensington makes the most stable memory. ProMax swapped all 8 gig of my memory for Kensington and I haven’t seen any issues since. I did this about three weeks ago.
Also, check to see if you have the most recent drivers and correct slot arraigement.

Yes, you’re right and I’m sorry if I came off as snippy… BUT this question is asked all of the time and with the recent adddition of the Mac Pro line of computers, people had to have known that these are totally different from the G5 line of Macs. Would you seriously think that old software could run on a new computer using a different platform for processing? These are questions that you should ask Apple when purchasing a new system.

I wish I could answer that question, but I honestly don’t know… I do know that from what I read on their website, the latest update (which depends on your drive unit, I assume that you have the FS-4 Pro unit?) will add native Quiicktime HDV support. That means all you have to do is drag your files off of the Firestore drive onto whatever drive you are editing with and use the HDV settings in your sequence and begin editing with no conversions or capturing.

I have to ask… Why didn’t you just capture all of your footage using DVCProHD? What capture card do you have?
Anytime you use software to upconvert or downconvert, you are asking for problems. Keep this in mind when starting a new project. This is the reason why I try to tell people when they are upgrading their equipment and their work can encompass anything, buy an AJA Kona 3. This card will do anything that you need on the fly in realtime.
I work with SD footage alot that I have to upconvert to DVCProHD. The upconvert looks stunning. Yes, you can still tell that its upconverted but the footage looks much much better than software conversion and it sure takes alot less time.

I strongly suggest that you purchase the latest update for the Firstore. It will then fully support HDV and FCP. The latest update includes a way to record all of you media using the Quicktime format, making it fully compatible with FCP.

Oh, come on, folks….
Read the forum carefully. You have to have FCP 5.1 to run on the Mac Pro. All other versions WILL NOT run. FCP 5.1 is the Universal Binary version made for the Mac Pro systems.

Look to Apple’s Quicktime support for the latest info on deleting that quicktime files associated with firewire and Quicktime. I’m sorry, I don’t have the link, right now, but I’m sure this is your issue.

It doesn’t seem to matter what you do…
If you are trying to export a Quicktime to be used in PowerPoint, its going to look pixelated. You have to compress your video in a format for the computer that has PowerPoint installed. Anytime you compress anything, when you blow it up (which PowerPoint does), it will look pixelated.
