[Bob Flood] “when i ammworking i often have to import and or integrate a bunch of temporary or rough version type media files. when i near the end of a project i usually move them off or even delete them.”

OR… You could create two other projects, one with all of your deleted media and one without the deleted media clips.

Sorry for the additional post… I thought about this after I sent the other.

Well, when FCP asks you to reconnect them, it will also ask you if you want to forget them. Just check the box and FCP will forget them.

First of all, Geoff… I hope your OS isn’t on your RAIDed 500 gig volume. If so, that’s you first mistake. Purchase a 250 drive just for OS X and you can then RAID the 500 gig together. You first post made me think you only have 500 gig of RAID with your OS on it.

Secondly, as far as the RAID is concerned… As long as your drives are SATAII drives, you can do just about anything with them internally but I would suggest you find a backup medium for your projects. Mac Pro system are SATAII interface. That means you can add drives directly into your box without the need of adding external SATA RAIDs. If you want to look at some numbers on the internal RAID, look at http://www.barefeats.com. They have the numbers you want.

The problem with HDV is that if you have to re-capture your footage, timecodes and cut frames may not match as they once did. This is because of the nature of Long GOP video. That is why all of us who use HDV in a professional setting ALWAYS convert it to DVCProHD.

Let me ask… Is the SD footage anamorphic? If so, you’re best bet would be to let Compressor do all of your work for you. When you upscale in FCP, your footage looses resolution alot more than it would going through Compressor.

  • [Gregory Dillard] “We are going to purchase an XL H1, KONA LHe to add to our umcompressed system (G5 Quad Core, AJA i/0, DSR 1500A with SDI, BETA SP Deck”

Can I ask? Why the XL H1? If you go with Sony, you can get a camera and a deck for the same cost as Canon. Is it so that you can use the Redrock Micro lens adapter?

I still had issues doing this. The only solution that I found was to make them all match. Rendering got faster but I had to render everything. There was no relatime support until all of my memory matched in size.

That’s just my system, maybe… but look out for this.

[Adrian Zehn] “everything has already been captured and a lot of work has already been done…..”

Can you explain what you mean by alot of work has already been done? Has editing begun yet?
