Ok, that’s cool….
I just noticed that AJA was starting to roll out new stuff and thought maybe someone knew something more about these plugins like a little closer to when they would be released.

Here’s an idea…
Look in your Mac OS System Preferences – Network – Show: Network Status… Click on the drop down menu and click on Network Port Configurations. Uncheck anything that is firewire and any port that has your capture card listed like Kona Serial.
If any of these are checked, they can cause you headaches because the OS is trying to use them for network access.
Give that a shot.

Look to see if you hard drive is full. It sounds like a hard is full or almost full.
Keep in mind when downloading these discs that they are 23 gig discs and if you have 20 discs, that would mean that you need at least 460 gig to dump. Each disc may not be full but its a good idea to assume they are before you start.

Sad things is… this is Sony’s way of saying this deck is so cheaply made that we didn’t want to add the protection circuit to it. Even a $150 firewire drive has that protection circuit installed.

So, let me ask you this. Why are you building a low end system to only put on software that costs as much as everything else? Sounds like you would have been better off with Final Cut Express.
In our industry we have a saying… If you cheap it out, you’ll have major problems.
Besides, I didn’t know you could still find a lowe camcorder with firewire. Almost all of the newest ones have USB support only. It’s not until you get up around the $1000 range that you start seeing firewire.

Not really… or just barely. Look at the specs on Apple’s website. I don’t think they spec an iMac to run FCS2.

Well….
If software were made perfectly, we wouldn’t need to upgrade or patch it. It would put the software companies out of business.

Yeah… I agree.
Asking which codec is the fastest is a completely relative thing. This will vary depending on your computer and included hardware. BUT, the resolution of photos make a real difference in render times.
If you are just doing static shots, then scale them to your sequence size in Photoshop. If you are doing motion shots, render times will be much higher but, the cost of doing quality work is more important that render times and charge clients accordingly.

Here’s my two cents…
I’m not sure how long you’ve been in the business. But I’ve been doing this for almost twenty years, now, and I am noticing that I am getting some hearing loss due to the fans running all of the time. So, its your ears… I think I’d turn off what ever you can to save the wear on your ears. Every little bit counts.

Well, you’re not wrong, just a little confused. I undertand fully. I was, too, at first. But here’s the short of it.
When looking for maximum performance when using FCP, you need to have all of you memory in equal pairs across risers. Mixing 512s with 1 gigs can cause you issues like having to render everything – no realtime support (Unlimited RT and Safe RT are disabled).
I did the same as you when I first got my Mac Pro back in August. At that time, no one really knew how to configure these things. I purchased my system from ProMax. The Mac Pro came with a total of 1 gig (512s). I added an additional 6 gig to that. When I got my system in and started using it, I noticed that my RT was disabled. I had everyone stumped on this one. Finally, a techie at ProMax tried a few things and found out that you can’t mix the 512s and the 1 gig bars if you want Unlimited RT and Safe RT to work.
Sounds kinda screwy, I know. But this was my personal experience.
