Well…. It works but not completely.
We lost IMX50 output, audio setup is really odd at times, and output times are much higher than before (but this may be an issue with the newer Mac Pro systems).

I agree! Sony’s service has something to be desired.
It seems like since Sony shut down the Atlanta office, service has taken a serious nose dive. I guess corporate thinks “we got out money, now its your problem”. Yeah, I know… that’s not a fair statement, but anyone whose been burned by Sony service understands.
The best and easiest solution to this is to get to know your Sony rep and beg for a “loaner”/”demo” machine from them. This is what we do everytime we need service. Keeps the headaches to a minimum.

I, too, am having troubles with exporting XDCAM HD. I’m exporting 1080i60 (35m/bps). My issue seems to be that we haven’t had the time to fully convert over to XDCAM HD and Motion 3 doesn’t do non-square projects very well at all – I use Motion to create in ProRes422 and then render in FCP6.
Anyway… My issue is when will Sony come out with a newer version that is FULLY compatible with FCS2?
I can’t even export to XDCAM IMX50 anymore, either!

Sure would be nice if Apple would be a little more open about what exactly the updates fix. What are improvements? Elaborate Apple?

[lasvideo] “Please keep us posted on the new machines performance with FCS2.”
As for performance, my quad 3.0 Intel system work pretty good. But I will say that its not near as fluid or smooth as the machines at NAB. I’m pretty sure that Motion was solely intended for the new Octocore systems.
But performance isn’t too shabby on a quad 3 using an ATI X1900 XT with 8 gig of RAM. Now, dealing with output to my Kona 3 card has been an issue. If you aren’t working in square pixel (1920×1080), the screen seems to squeeze down to 720.

[Allan W.] “Don’t forget to fix your layers’ resolution to the canvas size! That speeds things up quite a bit.”
Can you explain this a little better? I’m fumbling through all of this myself and I already have the system that you just purchased.
I have noticed that if you Motion project is a different resolution than your FCP project, you’re going to have problems. Movement will get very jerky and aliased lines start to appear.

[MTrubac] “Will exporting XML files from FCP 5.1 and importing those into FCP 6 preserve things any better? Are there any known workarounds for the speed change bug?”
Can’t say that I have taken the time to see if this works or not.
BUT, I have placed markers on the timeline with the speed changes and made notations on the markers of the correct speeds for those clips. That way when an upgrade is done and the speeds of those clips are readjusted, I can then adjust those to its original speeds and re-render correctly.

Yes, I have seen this, too. But, my favorite is the render past 100%. I have had projects that render to 135%. Sounds strange, doesn’t it.
It’s nice to know that Compressor gives us a 135%!
