You might ought to check out Canon’s website.
We had two Canon XL2 cameras about three years ago and we used the Frame Mode all of the time. The XL-H1 has 24p capabilities, but the standard def XL1 and XL2 only shoot in Frame Mode.

That is because the XL2 does not shoot in 24p. Canon has what is called Frame Mode. This is a simulated progressive look. In order to make it 24p, you’ll have to convert it to 24p.

Well, I have noticed this with duplicated sequences, BUT my issue isn’t with this. Mine is the main sequence. I edit my program until completion then duplicate the sequence to make a DVD copy for preview.
This has been occurring since FCP6.

Look at it this way….
We go to college for what? An education. Why do we get certified? An education.
The only purpose for certification besides working toward becoming a trainer, is to gain experience with FCS as a new user of the program. My first year of using FCP was one of fumbling and poor workflow. The certification class that I took gave me the tools and option to make my editing and workflow much more efficient. Without knowing the full program, its tough to get around and this is a perfect opportunity to learn FCP.
I would very highly suggest this to someone just starting out in FCP.
Other than that… its only needed for those wanting to become trainers.

Apple’s reasoning is that XDCAM files are about the size of DV files, of which, are somewhat small to begin with so why edit proxies when you could just do the online edit.
I realize this seems crazy and a little outlandish compared to other NLE’s but that’s Apple’s stand on it.
You could always import the video and convert it to a lower quality and use that for editing and your higher quality would already be there. Just a thought.

I would suggest that you export your timeline to a stand alone Quicktime file and use that for your compression in Compressor.
The only real issues I have seen is the compression times have increased alot since the last update.

Works just fine… What version of FCP do you have? I ask this because there has been some issues with the naming conventions of the Sequence setups that are causing issues with the Sony Transfer Software. Its easy to fix and it will work just but let me know so that I can get you the fix for it. This post will tell you how to fix it.

Hmm…. I noticed that its not NAB Post this year. Now, its the New York Post Production Conference. It looks as if its still in conjunction with NAB but not an NAB official event. Curious?

I went to NAB’s website and you’re right. There’s nothing on NAB Post this year. Hmm…. I wonder if its a budget cut back or just poor turn out last year.
