At some point, Trapcode changed the serial number format. I recall having to get a new serial number recently – I don’t recall if it was for CS3 or CS4.

I’ve got to learn not to drink things when I’m reading stuff on the internet. I nearly sprayed Coke all over my laptop when I read that survey this morning.

I usually encode to .flv, post the spot to my website and then send the client a link to the spot. That way I don’t have to worry about the file size causing a problem on the client’s end. This also helps if you have clients in multiple locations that have to give approval. I recently completed a project which had to be completed in 48 hours and had to have approval from people in Illinois, Indiana and Georgia. I only had to upload the spot once, instead of 3 times.

I occasionally get hum from the camera transport picked up by the camera mic. I’ve found that if I use the Parametric EQ filter I can get rid of it. In my particular situation I have to set the frequency to 3280 Hz, set the gain to -20 dB and the Q to 3. You’ll probably have to tweek the settings a little, but this should get you in the ballpark.

January 16, 2009 at 11:02 pm in reply to: CS3 on a Mac (compatibility)

Here are the system requirements from the readme file on the CS3 install disk:

    PowerPC® G4 or G5 or multi-core Intel processor
    Mac OS® X v.10.4.9
1GB of RAM for DV; 2 GB of RAM for HDV and HD
3GB of available hard-disk space plus 2 GB of space for optional content (additional free space required during installation)
1,024×768 minimum monitor resolution with 32-bit or greater video card
    DVD-ROM drive
QuickTime 7.1.5 software required to use QuickTime features
Internet or phone connection required for product activation

It seems to me that I had it installed on my G4 laptop before moving it to my dual 2.0 G5.

    Hope that helps…

The bandwidth of a phone is very narrow. Try adding a low frequency cutoff at around 380 Hz and a high frequency cutoff around 3kHz.

I’ll second SmartSound. The mood mapping feature is pretty cool. You can change the mix (for example, leave out the horns or use just the bass and percussion) at any point throughout the piece. You need the SmartSound multi-layer libraries to utilize that functionality.

If I’m not mistaken, they have a demo version of the SonicFire program on their website, and if you buy a copy of version 4.5 now they’ll send you a free of version 5 when it ships. I just updated to 4.5 from the very first version of the program.
