I’ve got to agree with Seattle. I’m looking at a closet full of tape, but every one of them still plays in the Beta deck even after my computer craps out.
As far as distribution, I send out lots of spots to all different markets, and it’s all still on tape. So far, we haven’t found anyone who can’t play a BetaSP tape.

Floh & SoftHarbor, I appreciate your help. Somewhere between reinstalling QT 7.2, deleting the preferences file and repairing permissions, I’m back up and running as normal. I’d love to know what exactly went wrong in the first place to keep it from happening again, but I guess I’ll just be grateful to have this thing running again.

Floh, thanks for the quick response. This problem is happening on multiple projects (all of them, actually), and it started just recently. The only thing I can think of that changed was downloading the Apple updates, but that should have been just the security and iTunes updates. If Quicktime also got updated, would that cause any issues?
Since the original post, I’ve downloaded and installed 8.2.3, but am getting the same results. I can still play back projects just fine, so the media drives seem to be functioning properly. And as far as exporting to a different drive, I can’t even get that far when attempting to export. As soon as I click on the “Export from edit suite” command, M100 disappears. When I try to relaunch the program, I get the message the it can’t open because it’s locked up.
Thanks for all of your help.

July 11, 2007 at 5:52 pm in reply to: Audio Levels / Volume Adjustment on a mass scale. 😉You can apply audio EQ to multiple clips the same way as Color FX, so maybe a quick & dirty way to boost the needed clips is to create a custom EQ setting that raises the levels across the spectrum and apply that to the clips. Just a thought.

Alex, I had similar issues going back to v4.x, and I worked around it by manually ramping up the audio level – usually just one or two frames for the ramp-up and ramp-down took care of the problem. And since I’m a creature of habit, I still do that on every audio clip in my timeline.
Good luck.

Double-click the clip you want to pull your freeze from to get it into your Edit Suite; choose the frame you want to freeze with the CTI (the white triangle at the top of the timeline bar); select “Export From Edit Suite” from the “File” pulldown menu; choose “Frame” from the selection pulldown; go to your Image Sequence selection pulldown and choose JPEG; make sure the name and destination are what you want and click “Export”.

A story to explain the sound of my head pounding on the edit bay wall many moons ago…..
In the very early ’90s, I travelled to a Communist-controlled country with a large group of people, which included another news crew and some production people from a University. When we landed, we learned that our news cameras and the University camera would be “secured” for a day or two. We only got our news cameras back as we were leaving the country three weeks later.
For the duration of the trip, we were not allowed to touch any other video cameras, especially the only professional camcorder, a Hi8 setup that was quickly returned to the University shooter, who was the head of their Video Production department. He told us that he would provide us with a dub of all of his raw footage when we got back to the states, and we could produce our hour-long presentation with that. Sounded good enough; he was, after all, their main guy.
Unfortunately, the note he included with the footage he delivered said something to the effect that he was not overly pleased with the outcome of the footage. We could see why. Every single shot included plenty of footage of him positioning the camera, balancing the tripod, pan around and zoom in to get focused, then about a second of decent footage. Cut to him setting up the next shot. Repeat.
Thank goodness I did not have my still camera taken from me while we were there, because the end production was built almost exclusively from those still shots.
And people still wonder why I have such a problem relinquishing control of any aspect of my productions…..

Thanks again for the info. It even responds faster that it did on the FAT32 format.

I’ve had these drives for a couple of years, and I did not format them when I got them. But the new one I’m taking out of the box this afternoon WILL be formatted before dumping files to it.
Thanks for the hint.

I’ve had to do similar changes, and the quickest (and I know it’s not very quick) way I’ve found is to save the new font/color/etc. in the style pallet, and manually go in, select the text to change, and apply the new setting to the existing text. It’s mindless and time-consuming, I know. That’s why we bill our clients for changes like this.
Good luck, and let us know if you find a better way.
