Craig, that would be a really useful direction to go in.
There will be a plethora of manuals and tutorials produced to teach the new techniques and workflows required to work successfully with FCPX. But understanding the power and of metadata is what will make sense of this all.
For those who have not seen the clips of Philip Hodgetts FCPX Meta Data LAFCPUG presentation on the 28th June here’s a link.

There are loads of really comprehensive video tutorials already published by Larry Jordon, Ripple Training, Michael Wohl at Macprovideo, Izzy Video and as well as the podcasts at Creative Cow.
The only book I know of to date is by Philip Hodgetts:
Conquering the metadata foundations of Final Cut Pro X | The present and future of post production business and technology
Also available as a pdf

Thanks Brendan
yeah it’s a pain to have to mouse down, click open and then manually select the different view. In FCP 7 I’m constantly using Shift T.
What is strange is that there is a keyboard shortcut for changing between the appearance of the clips in the event browser. (well thats just between list and clip view)
So I guess I’ll provide another feedback request to Apple.

Sorry Craig my question was not complete.
What I am asking is where the keyboard shortcut for toggling between the clip appearances.
In all the video tutorials I’ve bought and studied and and from reading through the manual I just can’t seem to find it.
Maybe with your experience you know?

What’s the role of a Forum Leader?
Ideally a bit like the host at a good house party, setting the atmosphere, keeping things civil, introducing new topics when things get a bit quiet.
This forum has been brilliant to date, with very few negative views.
The other FCP X forum is much more about hard strategic info and a place for people to let off steam, moan about Apple, and talk platform politics. Very entertaining.
This is a great place to learn and share information and that’s thanks to the tone of the forum, and that’s been set by the leaders!

July 8, 2011 at 5:33 am in reply to: Workflow for 2 people anylysing and clipping interview material? Thanks Tony,
yeah I’ve tried that out and it could work. I’ve not really learnt about markers yet. My biggest problem is that I am still working intensively on FCP 7 and will be for the next month. So in FCP X I find myself automatically trying file save the project all the time etc etc.
I do know however that the tools are there in FCP X to really organise the material and have almost instant access to specific sections of clips.

Sure you can import your completed Pro-res films and cut them up. And bring in all your original HDV clips and then if you want rebuild the project from the ground up. So if you are asked to make revisions that’s all possible even if its a real pain.
I’m currently replacing an interview in a film we completed last year and decided it was far easier to do it in FCP 7. So it’s going to be a slow transition between version 7 and FCP X.

Yes, don’t forget Izzy, or Larry or Michael Wohl.
As mentioned each have their own take on it.
So I tell myself that there’s no excuse for not getting up to speed really quickly.
I’ve found this forum great because most posts are dealing with real issues that people have come up against as they do their first projects on the software.
For me the real learning will take place when I commit a whole job to FCP X rather than experimenting with bits and pieces.

I don’t know about the limits for keywords but in the manual it explains how to copy or move events to another hard drive so that could give you some peace of mind.

A simple workaround to this issue is to simply duplicate the clip.
I’ve tried this method and it works.
If you duplicate the clip having already created a favorite range, unmark it before making another favorite selection.
