Forum leaders
Posted by David Battistella on July 8, 2011 at 4:57 pmHey all,
I’m just putting this out there because I want to know. As a leader on this forum I want to ask what you expect from a forum leader here.
I can’t answer every question, but I am curious about what the group here expects from leaders on this forum.
I think the answers could help us all. I don’t want to put any of the other leaders on the spot, but I see this as a way of serving the community and I hope to do that well.
So far I really appreciate how users in the techniques forum have been sharing info and diving into the software. By now we are all aware of what was left out, but already this week I have benefitted from what is being shared here. To me it represents the spirit of this community.
David.

I think it unfair to think anyone would be able to answer anything close to every question, however people think that we are able to read minds or that every computer has the same config.
I try to maintain civility and try to see that people speak truthfully about hardware and software issues.
It’s about leading by example.

July 8, 2011 at 5:15 pmHey Dave,
Great question, and I’ll answer this from a user perspective, as I am a user just like everyone else. If I had to sum everything up in one word…..Experience. As much as FCPX is an application on its own, it’s only one part in a massive post production workflow, and one thing that I think that I/We bring to the table is an extensive knowledge of not only post applications themselves (FCPX, Motion 5, FCPS3, Media Composer, After Effects, C4D), but that hardware and and workflow techniques that go along with that. Apple has created this little island (FCPX) in a massive ocean (post production world), with seemingly no bridge to get to or from it, and right now, that’s fine for people who have DV/HDV or limited tapeless workflow, but as Apple (hopefully) starts to build bridges to FCPX, and it is used in a professional post production environment, I think that our daily, hands on experience will be an invaluable tool to this forum. Much like FCP7 lives in harmony with AE, Media Composer, C4D, etc, so too will FCPX (i hope). Just my 2 cents worth.

Step 1 – Stop lying. 😉

Actually, that has never been a requirement, or even a recommendation. 🙂
The big thing is contributing toward civility, and, kidding aside, to insert a voice of experience.
Answering every post is explicitly not a goal. Let people who post less often get into the game.
In a forum like this, nobody can even READ every post. So we ask leaders to be our eyes. If you see something that you need us to deal with, please contact us directly.
This invitation extends to non-moderators too. We need your input to make sure we stay on the rails, and if there’s anything we need to do to make your trip as pleasant as possible — pillow? blankie? — we surely will.

July 8, 2011 at 7:53 pmWhat’s the role of a Forum Leader?
Ideally a bit like the host at a good house party, setting the atmosphere, keeping things civil, introducing new topics when things get a bit quiet.
This forum has been brilliant to date, with very few negative views.
The other FCP X forum is much more about hard strategic info and a place for people to let off steam, moan about Apple, and talk platform politics. Very entertaining.
This is a great place to learn and share information and that’s thanks to the tone of the forum, and that’s been set by the leaders!

July 8, 2011 at 8:21 pmKeeping it simple…a little bit of sharing by everyone helps us all.
No one person knows it all, no one person knows nothing…mix it all together and we can all pick up useful bits as we go along.
This is a great resource….keep sharing.
Cheers,
Brendan

Boy isn’t that the truth. Seems Like everyone’s got different little pieces of knowledge about FCPX. If we all could form like Voltron, we might could make one solid FCPX User. Cept Gary, He knows more than us, but he cheated by having the software early.
