Well I’ve tried this app out unsuccessfully twice now and it’s all a bit of a faff.

Very similar to the workflow for using pluraleyes but at this stage without the result.

So I’ve exported the XML, dropped it on the App, selected a clip. It does open up in Motion but at this stage only as a still image.

I’ll have a play with it later again but probably just continue using my own clunky workaround of exporting a file and opening it up in Motion etc etc

But it is definitely a step in the right direction.

Hi Eric,

Sounds likeYou are on the home straight! You’ve done all the hard work and all you need to do is get the film out into the world.

As Oliver suggests for simplicity stay within FCPX – whilst compressor works really well you could be opening up another can of worms.

Just a couple of suggestions that will convert your project easily.

1. First as a safety precaution go into your project library and make a duplicate of your project. (cmd d) Choose the default Duplicate project only option and untick the include render files –

2. Next set up a new project with the 720p 1280×720 / 29.97 settings – in the audio section click custom and select stereo.

3. Now go back to your finished project and select everything and create a compound clip ( just makes life easy ) . Now copy the compound clip -cmd c –

4. navigate back to the project library and and open up the 720p project you have just prepared and copy paste the compound clip into it.

It will show as being un rendered – so just let it render – might take a while if its a long film/ Once it’s rendered there you are with a new 720p film.

Then just follow the share options from my previous post.

Eric you really don’t have too much of a problem. And there are many ways to catch a fish.

Simply create a new project and set the project properties to a progressive format. You will need to highlight the custom button to do this. For Vimeo and YouTube I would recommend 720p HD at the same frame rate you shot it at which as you are in the US would be 30p or 29.97

You can find out the properties of your source footage in the inspector.

So having created a new progressive project, simply edit your programme in it. Anything you edit into the project will be transcoded to the new setting.

Once your edit is complete I would suggest that rather than using the Vimeo or YouTube Share options you export the movie as an H264 encode by selecting cmd E and in the video codex select H264. This will create a .MOV file which will be suitable for uploading.

If you save the movie to a folder on your computer you can review it before uploading it to Vimeo or YouTube.

The advice on Macrumors is to hold on – don’t buy now. They say it’s 292 days since the last update and the average is 273.

However David Roth Weiss is right to say that if it’s going to produce good revenue buy it now.

I’ve been hanging on for a long time now for the new MacPro and whilst my present 2008 Mac is getting on a bit it is still a pro quality machine that I can rely on even if it isn’t the fastest in the world.

Either way you are going to get a substantially better machine than the one you have got now.

You will need to update your FCPX software to 10.0.3 and then install the new beta driver which can be downloaded from:

No – you can download it as many times as you like.

And download it onto other macs you might have.

Think of the app store as a virtual cupboard filled with all the things you have bought.

I didn’t like the idea at first, preferring to actually own a hard copy of software I have bought, but now think it’s great.

Hi Deborah

The titling issues are really frustrating and they do seem to be better in 10.0.3

If you can’t download 10.0.3 what you need to do is trash your current version of FCPX from your application folder (just the fcpx app) and then download the new version.

The App store will then allow you to download the new version.

All your Events and Projects should be fine bit if you are mid way through something maybe wait till you have finished it before upgrading.

FCPX 10.0.3 is the most stable and mature version yet and definitely worth downloading.

Well I’ve tried it out and . . . .

It’s really buggy, crashes the program, slow . . .

There is no facility for renaming clips prior to ingest . . .

No ability to choose the kind of file you want native, 422L, 422, etc etc

It just brings it in as a 422 file.

So, very disappointed and will continue to use the FCP log and transfer to bring the files onto the computer.

Be interested to see what other people think.
